I may be switching from DISH to Direct TV and am interested in dish alignment of satellites versus Direct TV. With DISH I barely make it around my neighbor's roof overhang. I am concerned I may not be able to see the Direct TV satellite.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I do not want to go through the whole cancel/join process to find out I cannot get Direct TV.

Thanks!
Doug

When you use the terms "left" and "right", you need to clarify whether you mean "when looking at the Dish from behind" or "when looking at the Dish from the front".

When you look due south, you are looking at 90 degrees. If you are standing behind your dish, your current Dish 500 should be pointed just slightly to the right (west) of this, at 110 and 119. If you also have a Dish 300 pointed at 61.5, it will be pointed a fair bit to the left (east), at 61.5. With DirecTV, you need to consider the 101 satellite, so as Redfishhunter says, from behind your dish, consider an angle slightly to the left of where your current Dish 500 looks.

Thanks to both of you! I was hoping you would say that. I can go left a little but right puts my on his roof.

On the east coast, D*'s 101 is about 40 degrees, where the 110 is 35 and the 119 is 28-30. IF you have nothing to the left of the dish looking s-sw, then you can get D* from there with no problem. Keep in mind that the 3 sat D* dish uses the 110 and 119 as well, so if you have signal loss, it probably would help to move it if possible. If you only need basic programming, you shoul be in good shape.

... When you look due south, you are looking at 90 degrees. ...
Just a clarification for other readers. ;)

When I first read the above, I was a bit shocked - South=90??? - then thought that it referred only to the OP's location - Delaware, except that's at 75 degrees west longitude.

So, Slordak - you in St. Louis? 90 degrees West longitude?

Grr, sorry, I'm at 88.3 degrees West longitude in Illinois, yes, so hence my frame of reference there. Must pay more attention!
