View Full Version : What's the best 32"-34" tv to buy??
I'm looking to purchase a new tv for my family room. We won't be using it for watching a lot of movies (that's what the big screen in the basement is for), but will probably be the most used tv in the house. I have a cabinet to put it in, so a tube is ok. There is a lot of natural light in the room, so the set should be fairly bright. It will be my first hdtv :) . The 53" pioneer elite rptv in the basement is not hd, but I think it's still great for movies. Do you think that 16:9 is necessary or can I still get away with 4:3 (since I have the rptv in the basement for movies)? I would love an lcd tv, but would also like to save a couple of bucks. I have an amoire to put the tv in, but the space is limited to 36" wide.
All insights welcome.
Thanks.
Mike.

Getcha a 16:9 tube model (Samsung or Sony), and get a couple buds to help you pick the thing up!! :)
Seriously you should be able to get one of those around 1200 or so.
I know a lot of people laugh at it, but I've heard great things about either the 30 wide or 32 4:3 sanyo HDTV at Walmart for $697...
Both have the same 16x9 viewing size, but the 32 inch gives u a bigger 4:3 size if u still want to watch a lot of regualr progrsm
No question, if you are looking for best tube 16:9 HDTV sony is your maker. get the XBR 960 at 34". (they also have a 30" version) It tops in picture quality and has awesome speakers (if you will not be using a surround sound system this VERY important.) This TV is ranked #1 by Consumer Reports and many other testers like c-net. you MUST get 16:9 if you are looking at an HDTV. It is a complete waste of money to buy a 4:3, since all HD broadcasts are in 16:9, many DVD are, and some day soon in the future all digital SD broadcasts will be too. Look at the UK as an example of 16:9 TVs.
