A TOP REPUBLICAN ENDORSES CONTROVERSIAL SATELLITE TV MERGER
WASHINGTON, Apr 22, 2002 (States News Service via COMTEX) -- The blockbuster
merger of the nation's two largest satellite television companies snagged its
highest profile congressional endorsement yet on Monday.
Rep. Dick Armey, the Texas Republican who is the House majority leader, urged
the Justice Department to approve the controversial merger of EchoStar
Communications Corp. and Hughes Electronics Corp., saying the deal would benefit
consumers.
In a letter to Attorney General John Ashcroft, Armey said the Justice Department
should keep "the heavy foot of government off the necks of these growing
businesses so customers and sellers can reach their own deals without our
'expertise' getting in the way."
It may be old news to you all but I didn't see a thread on it. Sorry if it is a duplicate
