I've tried using a number of antennas and the one I've had the most luck with is the Smartenna and Winegard MS2000, the pancake-like, omnidirectional dishes. These seem to be necessary because the towers around here are 20-100 miles away and in a complete 360 circle around us (eliminating directional antenna usage).
In passive (non-amplified mode), reception is extremely snowy and a good picture is nearly impossible to achieve. In amplified mode, reception is pretty darn good on all UHF channels with just a little bit of ghosting. However, on VHF (channels 2-13), a clear picture can't be achieved. Snow and static appear on all channels. Tower distance for these is 20 - 40 miles away.
We have no digital towers around here so that's out. Also, I'm not using multiswitches in most cases, prefering to run a separate cable instead of diplexing whenever possible.
Still, being naive about OTA, I haven't found a way to get decent OTA on the VHF channels. Any suggestions are welcomed!
Thanks in advance!
