I have a dual video card running 2 flat lcd monitors. Today I rebooted my computer and now one of the monitors quit working. It comes up at first when the computer comes on or when you turn the monitor power on and you see the windows desktop but then it sort of flickers slightly then faintly disappears to a black screen, but the green light on the monitor stays on. You can't see any screen control menus on it either.

I just find it odd, I come home and its fine as usual, then reboot and its not working. I switched the monitor cables and which monitor is plugged into what video card slot and nothing works.

Does anyone have any ideas?

My first guess would be that your 2nd monitor is turned off in windows. Go into screen properties and check to make sure your 2nd monitor is activated. If you've recently had a hardware change, updated drivers, or maybe booted into safe mode, it might have deactivated the 2nd monitor as default.

You might also get this thread moved over to the Computer Talk forum. I think this forum is more for satellite related technical talk.

I have tried hooking it up different ways and still no luck. Sorry didn't realize I posted in the wrong area.

I'm not quite sure I fully understand what you are saying here. Let me see if I understand you correctly. You have 2 video outputs, lets say Output A and Output B. You also have 2 LCD screens, lets say LCD 1 and LCD 2.

When you have 1 plugged into A and 2 into B, both screens start up normal, but once Windows sharts going, B goes black but doesn't appear to turn off. Is this correct so far?

Then, when you tried to swap video cables so that A was plugged into 2 and B was plugged into 1, you got no video on either screen? Or did 1 work at first, but faded to black as it did before?

Disregard the fact that I have a dual video card. The video card is fine and has nothing to do with the problem I discovered. The monitor comes up when windows starts and you faintly see the desktop screen or when you first power the monitor on you see the desktop but then it fades and the screen is black. The green light remains on.

It is just strange that when I came home the screen was fine operating as normal, then after I rebooted the computer, it wouldn't come back on again. The monitor is a gateway 18 inch LCD model FPD1830.

Disregard the fact that I have a dual video card.If the problem follows the display, then it's the display. If the problem follows the output, then it's the card. It wasn't clear from your original post what was happening and I was just trying to clarify.

If the problem follows the display, then it's the display. ...Well - assuming that your first up question from post #2 was actually considered and answered.

The OP still hasn't actually said he's correctly set the Windows Display Properties. His answer was "I have tried hooking it up different ways and still no luck", which sounds a lot more like hardware changes than software.

You can't see any screen control menus on it either.Sounds like the LCD's the problem, to me. If you turn the monitor off and then back on, does it show a picture for a few seconds again?

Yes it does. Then it fades to black and the green light stays on like normal.

Your problem is the inverter in the monitor. Its a VERY common problem for the FPD1830. You can find a replacement for $99 at moniserv.com or a refurbished replacement on ebay for as low as $45. I have 3 FPD1830's and have had to replace the inverter in all three and they work beautifully now. The amount of time it stays on before going black will continue to get shorter and shorter until it doesnt come on at all anymore. The reason it worked fine until you restarted your computer is because the board only goes bad between being on and off and when you restarted your comptuer it kicked your monitor off and then back on, and that one time is when it fried.
