Directv distants

My parents have had Directv distants since 1996. When they were getting strict with those laws, they lost the CBS and Fox stations for a short time but later were reinstated.

How will the new laws affect Directv distants? No locals are available to them yet on satellite and probably won't be until 2005 sometime. They have no desire really to get locals on satellite especially now since their HD receiver now picks them up and also integrates them in the guide, plus they do not want to give up the New York and LA stations they have watched now for nearly 10 years now.

The law has not had a final vote yet, so exactly what the finished law will say is just a guess. Dan Collins' reading of the bills before Congress suggests that those who already have distants will likely be able to keep them. Check this thread -
