Does anyone else recall the C-Band days of satellite and having the Primetime 24 distant networks?

I think we had WABC New York, WBBM Chicago, and WXIA Atlanta.
Later they replaced WABC with WJLA Washington DC then WKRN Nashville, WBBM with WSEE Erie, PA, and WXIA with WNBC New York.
Later they added Primetime 24 West - KOMO Seattle, KPIX San Francisco, and KNBC Los Angeles. I really miss those stations.

We also had Netlink's Denver 5 package KMGH, KRMA, KCNC, KUSA, and KWGN and A3 package for a short time WPLG Miami, WUSA Washington DC, and WBZ 4 Boston (then NBC).

I remember getting letters from the SHVA and local stations objecting to our having these distant channels. Back then, we'd just change programming providers and never lost any of them!!

It used to be

Primetime 24
WABC ABC 7 New York, NY
WRAL CBS 5 Raleigh, NC
WXIA NBC 11 Atlanta, GA
WFLD FOX 32 Chicago, FL

The Atlantic Pack (Before PT24's Days)
WPLG ABC 10 Miami, FL
WUSA CBS 9 Washington D.C.
WHDH NBC 7 Boston, MA.
WTXF FOX 29 Philadelphia PA.

Denver Five
KMGH ABC 7 Denver, CO
KCNC CBS 4 Denver, CO
KUSA NBC 9 Denver, CO
KDVR FOX 31 Denver, CO
KRMA PBS Denver, CO.

PT-24 later added west coast stations for a short period of time.
KOMO ABC 4 Seattle, WA
KPIX CBS 5 San Francisco, CA
KNBC NBC 4 Los Angeles

Today PT24 still exists on C-Band but without any west coast stations with:
WKRN ABC 2 Nashville, TN
WSEE CBS 35 Erie, PA.
WNBC NBC 4 New York, NY.

Dish Network Now lets people chose stations from a selection of markets such as New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, or Dallas. DirecTV offers New York and Los Angeles stations to people luckey enough to recieve them.

Yeah - I remember those days - before DBS there weren't enough of us horrible people watching something other than the 3rd rate local stations on 29-cent repeaters for the fascist NAB to spend the time to stop us.

Now of course, with 23 million subscribers (what's that - 20% of all households?) they're worried about their little monopoly game - but it won't matter for too many more years - they'll either wake up and change their business plan, or they'll be gone.

I forgot that WBBM 2 Chicago was replaced first with WRAL 5 CBS, then WSEE 35 from Erie, PA. WFLD Fox 32 Chicago was replaced with WSVN 7 Miami and then just the FoxNet channel which I think still exists. I can't recall what we had on Dish before WNYW became Fox East, I guess it was FoxNet.

I remember all of these packages. We paid for them all.

Denver and Dallas have been removed from Distants availability. They have, or will soon be, moved to spot beams.

I don't know I think WFLD was on in the late 80s, then it changed to WSVN 7 Fox Miami at one point, but then they also offered FoxNet-a national Fox feed with syndicated programming. That is what we had on Directv before it become WNYW 5 New York.

Y'all remember when the Sunday Ticket was searching all the way across the arc for the feeds from the game? with no commercials to boot...

I am a Direc Tv subscriber and i wish Direc Tv would allow us to choose which Distant Network package we wanted.

Directv has never offered anything but New York and LA. They still won't even offer WB or UPN unless it is in a local package. That is one reason I keep Dish Network, I can get Chicago distants which makes more sense since we live in the midwest.

i remember those days...we got a BUD in the summer of '95 (and it still sits in the backyard, i don't think it's moved in 5 years), we had the PT24 package and i remember waiting 20-30 seconds for the sat. to move from one end of the sky to another, course all that changed when we got Primestar in '99 or so
