View Full Version : Bug? report L 188
The last week or so, I haven't been able to record two sat programs at the same time or record one and watch another sat channel. I can record one sat channel and watch OTA, but not another sat channel. Its as if I only have one dish active. I use two dishes, each with a dual lnb. Two SW21 switches feed 921 as per the instructions. The point dish menu identifys this as a dish 300. I confirmed that the switches were both working. I tried changing the setting to dish 500 but it won't save that configuration. I guess this is not something the user can set. I tried powering down for 30 minuets then pluging back in, but this didn't change anything.
I have had my 921 since Febuary, and have always been able to record one while watching another. I don't think this started with L188 but I haven't been paying close enough attention to be sure.
Has anyone else seen this? Could it be a hardware problem with my 921?

It should then list what satellites are available. If this is ok, have you checked the connectors on a different satellite receiver? It sounds like a open connection or a switch problem. Have you had any voltage spikes or lightening strikes recently? Have any trouble screens displayed that indicate loss of signal? My POINT DISH is most sluggish when entering into it compared to the way it used to work. The "Dish System (300, 500, Super)" just show tuning information. Go into POINT DISH feature and go to Tuner Input. Scroll up or down and check the green bar for tuner 1 and then tuner 2. Do they remain the same? Is one red, the other green? If your Check Swith proves positive, most likely it is the 921 unit.
Yes I did do a check switch test. It showed OK for 110 and 119 on both switches.
I will check the signal strength on tuner 1 and tuner 2.
Thanks

Joby,
I had a problem very similar to this in nature. For a time, I was only able to tune in one HD channel on one particular tuner. I could still watch SD programming on the tuner but eventually lost that ability as well and was finally left with a one tuner 921. Final verdict, bad tuner. I am copying a PM I sent to Mark on the issue asking for assistance. His response starts out at the top of the post.
I had it dispoed and now all is well.

Re: Question about 2nd Tuner receiving HD
Mark,
Try this: Tune to an HD channel. Press record to start recording. Press Channel Up/Down to tune to the next HD channel. If the next HD channel won't tune, I think your 921 has failed and needs to be replaced. If it does tune, then there's a software bug here.
If you need it replaced, call the standard tech support, ask to be sent up to the advanced tech support level with your 921 issue, go through all of the tests they have you do, and then they should send you another one.

The problem I am having is only one of my tuners can receive HD programming of any kind. I can get normal satellite reception on both tuners. PIP works fine as long as it is normal satellite (SD) programming and I can switch between the two. As soon as attempt to view HD programming, I can only view it (HD) on one of my tuners.
For example...if I tune in TNTHD and start recording it, then while tuner 1 is recording, I pull up the program guide and select HBOHD, the title bar displays as if the channel is being changed but I never get any picture or sound.
I have also determined that the problem is not on only one tuner or the other. Only one tuner will receive HD programming. The other will not. I determined this by switching between the two using PIP and then attempting to tune a HD channel on each one repectively after closing the PIP window. One tuner will display HD and the other will only display a blank screen with no sound.
I have done numerous power plug reboots and I also ran a check switch. Everything checked out OK.
Have you heard of anyone else experiencing this problem with L187 or do you think instead this is a problem with my 921 and that I need to have it dispoed. I only recently started experiencing this problem. It seemed to start sometime after my 921 took the L187 download but I have no way of confirming when the problem actually started.
If it needs to be dispoed, is there someone specific you could direct me to or should I simply call in and try to do it through a normal CSR?
Please let me know. Any assistance you could provide would be helpful.
Thanks,
Mark Shaffner

Well I guess I should have done more checking before posting. After checking the tuner 2 signal strength (0 signal) I dug through the dozens of power, speaker, and coax cables, till I found the surge supressor that the dish coax feeds run through. One of the coax lines had seperated from its connector. I repaired the connection, now everything is OK.
Thanks for all the help!
