View Full Version : Grey Screen of Death
Haven't seen this discussed in a while, but I just wanted to post that I got the GSOD recently, in case E* is under the impression they fixed it...
It happened by itself - I wasn't trying to do anything at the time...was just watching baseball. The screen froze, then went to the GSOD, then the unit rebooted itself. When it came back up, it was unstable, so I had to follow-up with a power plug reboot.

Skates, I'll do my best Mark impression.... were you watching SD or OTA-HD? Were you recording anything during the time you were watching? Component or DVI? Delayed (i.e time shift) or real-time? Display setting (480p / 720p / 1080i)? I think that'll get it started...
Did you jump up and scream loudly at a play, causing a sudden shift in the air pattern in your room, and the sudden breeze hit a small component in the 921, causing it to go nuts? Ok, that was a joke...

I got one the other afternoon while I was watching a prerecorded movie. For no reason it just went to reboot. The funny thing is I have been doing a power cord reboot nightly before I go to bed , to avoid the blue line thing , so it shouldn't have had a reason for another reboot during the afternoon.

Of course not! What kind of animal do you think I am? After experiencing all the same bugs that everyone else has experienced, I just calmly made note of it and continued to read my Sunday paper while peering over it at the game... :D
I can definitely say that nothing was recording or set to record at the time. What I can't recall is whether I was watching ESPN-HD or Fox OTA at the time. I also have mine permanently set to output 1080i - I don't toggle.
Another note - this is the 1st time I ever got the GSOD. Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, the picture froze for a few seconds, then turned into a grey screen with a flashing "X" in the center for a few more seconds, then rebooted and displayed the error message "acquiring satellite signal".

This used to happen very frequently with my 721. I haven't seen it with my 921 yet.
