Channel 9401 is HITN, the spanish education channel. Right now as Im typing this, it is showing MLB Baseball! Its the raw MLB feed of the Boston/New York game.

Is it HD?
NightRyder
HITN with footage from DW here.
Maybe they accidentally switched to the game feed on I-805.

I was serious about it, so none of the HD stuff please.
Well, its back to normal now, but I decided to tape it to see what happens if they fix it. I started taping when 9401 had baseball on, then it switched to an NHK Feed (probably TV Japan), then it switched to a test card that said "ASCENT NEW YORK-525". After that, DISH threw up a Technical Diffuculties slate, and it was back to the normal HITN feed a few minutes after.
How does these switching problems happen anyway?

I'm sure the question that NightRyder asked was serious, Beans. I had a thought that maybe Dish was testing the Fox feed. Obviously not.

Well, you are right about that. It was the raw MLB feed. Besides, I have no way to tell if its HDTV since I don't even have an HDTV yet! :D
Life would be a sweet fruit if E could somehow get the World Series in HD. Let's hope they were testing the HD feed.

The F/X schedule was interrupted to carry the Card/Astros game when the AL game ran long. I guess that threw some people off and a mistake was made.

The final slate shows that E* at least noticed the problem.
It appears that the source of HITN is on Intelsat Americas 7 at 129.
It is a FTA DVB feed on transponder 24 C-Band (4186 MHz - 2893 symbol rate - 3/4 fec). Both E* and D* likely pick up that feed for their rebroadcasts. I don't find HITN on another satellite.
There are some "feeds" there that could have been used as the backhaul for the baseball game. Perhaps both the ballgame and HITN ran through the same uplink center (unlikely as backhauls usually are done from remote trucks). Or someone decided to flip a tuner over to the game "by mistake" without realizing that they were killing a live feed. That could have been someone at E*'s center (although they should have been able to pull the feed off of the channel being broadcast to subscribers and not need to grab a wild feed) or someone at HITN's uplink (who could have switched out a backhaul from HITN's source to view the game).
How does these switching problems happen anyway?Somebody bumps the wrong button, or misses a memo.
The memo missing would be for a planned change to a feed, for example NASA-TV's migration earlier this year to digital. There came a day where the old receiver had to be switched out for the new one. If someone missed the memo the old reciever would go dead live on the rebroadcast and people would have to scramble.
In this case, I think someone "bumped" a button. :D
BTW: HITN is uplinked from the "Brooklyn Navy Yard - Transmission Center".

Except the NASA migration to digital has not occured yet. :D
They just moved the analog from one satellite to two others(AMC 6 - C 9 and AMC 7 - C 18)

The analog move was important enough that it would have caused problems if missed. There is usually some test and transition period. One of my feeds at work moved this month from AMC-1 to AMC-3, we had three weeks to move it (our dish) or lose it (or reception).
The more I think of Brooklyn the more I think that the switch error was made at the initial uplink for HITN.
JL
The last email update from NASA said they likely would not do the transition to digital this year.
You didn't get involved in the PT 24 move, did you?

That was my hope. Guess not. :(
