This morning I turned on my 522 to watch TV (it's been off all weekend) and it keeps trying to acquire signal then goes to download guide info... in the middle of this the 522 resets itself and starts the whole process over. We are having a small storm... it is cloudy and was slightly sprinkling earlier but no rain or snow since about 1pm PST. I have tried everything. Turning it off, unplugging it...
I called DN and they are sending me a new 522 receiver. I just want to transfer my DVR events to tape/DVD and cannot access the DVR. When I try, it will show my menu for a split second and then the receiver will turn itself off and then back on again in a minute or so and start the darn acquiring signal junk all over again. I even tried disconnecting the entire unit from all cables and just plugging it into my TV to watch DVR and still have same results.
Does anyone know if there is something else I may be able to do to recover my recorded programs? Please help if you are able, I really appreciate it! And, thanks to all in advance!
If DISH tech support didn't have you do it try a hard reboot. Unplug from AC power for a ten count then plug it back in if this dosen't work kiss the programs good bye.

It's all better... I did the hard boot and unplugged it for like two hours and nothing worked. Except, once I plugged it back in and turned it off again, I did an update and it went through "Hard Disk Diagnostics" everything was back to normal after that. Dish customer support ASKED ME what I did to fix it, and when I told them they hardly knew what I was talking about. I had to walk them through it. Nice technical support they have [rolling eyes]. At least I got it to work.
Now, I'm just having all the other problems everyone else seems to be having with it. Customer support tried to tell me they have never heard of the color turning to black and white and the picture and sound becoming jumbled a lot. I called them on it and they finally admitted it was a software flaw and they were working to correct it. I asked for a different receiver model and they refused. I have only had their service for 2 months to date and am already having problems. Might switch to DirecTV, if I keep getting the run around and poor service.
and the picture and sound becoming jumbled a lot.
I've had DISH for a mere two weeks so far but this is something I notice - A LOT! Picture and sound out of sync. It happens with both my 522 and 311 - though it does seem to happen more with the 522. Is this a common problem?

From what I have read around the forums it is. When I asked Dish about it they said it is a software flaw and they are working to fix it. I'm not sure how long this is going to take, seems like it has been an issue for a while now.

Just a quick note, I got my 522 within a few days of when they became available, and they have been telling me since then they are all software problems, some say they are aware of them, and some say they have to fill out an uncommon occurence report. I have noticed that after all the receivers I have seen dish put out, they all had flaws in the beginning, but they all seemed to continually improve. So you see there is hope for the 522's and all the other current buggy receivers out there, it is just a matter of learning how truly patient one really is. Can you wait for Dish to get em fixed? We shall see, but keep telling Dish evertime you have a problem with it, make them note the account. It may not do any good, but who knows, maybe if enough people complain, they will get it rolling a bit faster. But take heart, everyone else is having the same problems. Good Luck.
