A friend of mine is having a problem with java on his computer. It is Compaq computer AMD 64 processor with Windows XP (about 6 months old). He says java will lock up on his computer and then the whole computer will reboot itself and its been doing this for awhile now. Has anyone else had this problem??

Has anyone else had this problem??Does it lock up and then automatically reboot? Or does he reboot it self? If it's the former, try turning off system failure auto restart (Right click on My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced tab -> Start Up and Recover Settings -> Automatic Restart [about 2/3 the way down]). Then wait for it to lock up again. This time a blue screen should appear. Write down the information on the scren, particularly the type of error at the top of the screen.

Remember that Windows XP 64 is still "beta". It's not an official product yet.

Most likely he is not running Windows XP64, but regular WinXP. It will install and run on an AMD64 processor just fine.

Perhaps his Java install has become corrupted. He should uninstall Java, go to http://java.sun.com and download/install the latest JRE for Java (version 1.5.0).
