Folks, I'm trying to decide on repairing one of my 921s or waiting.

I've got two 921s. One is the older rev (with the dishwire ports, etc.) and
it works like a charm. No timer misfires, fast response, just fine.

The second, newer 921 on the newer rev chip is having problems. If you hit
guide, it takes five seconds to put one up. Sometimes it crashes, sometimes
it doesn't. When moving from title to title in the DVR Events list, it struggles
to put the info text up on the screen. Slow as molasses.

Sometimes when I reboot it performance improves, slightly. Other times it
makes no difference.

It's watchable, and timers don't misfire. Watching the actual channel or
event, once it's tuned, is fine.

I haven't seen this listed as a bug, so I've sort of assumed it was something
broken on my unit. I wanted to wait a bit and see if anyone else was
seeing this but no one seems to be complaining about it.

So the question is: Send it in, or wait for the next software?

Here are the details:

Model: DishDVR 921
Card Rev: DNASP103 Rev300
Boot Version: 140B
Flash Version: F052
Software Version: L88HECD-N

Considering that 189 should be here in short order, I'd wait.

That being said, I don't hold much help that it will fix it.

Have you tried a factory reset on it? How about killing all your favorites, timers, recordings, everything, then a power plug boot (twice), then a factory reset, then another double power plug reboot?

I've had success in the past with just the double power plug reboot. Seems like there's something in the (second) boot process that is triggered by a newly created timer database (the first reboot). I might be all wet, and it really makes no sense, but like I said, it's helped me (specifically with timer issues).

Yeah, that's a lot, but still less painful than an RMA.

I agree with Simon on this one.

I'll give it a try.

Mark, listen to that: power plug reboot, reset, then power plug reboot.

Ok, word to Dish: Come on. You've got to be kidding. I'm trying, I
really am, to tow the line here, but cut me some slack boys! Jeez.

I agree with Simon on this one.

I have also been having problems with slow responses with channel selection, favorites list, and displaying program info. Seems to get worse as time goes on, requiring power cord reboots every couple of days. Sometimes requires two reboots, because one reboot may not come fully back (black screen). I have no problems with getting good pix on dish and OTA. Dish help desk had no solution, said they would report it.
