During the third quarter, BellSouth launched its "triple play" bundle that includes DirecTV service, and the regional phone company reported Monday that the service is winning over customers.

Through Sept. 30, more than 90,000 BellSouth customers have added DirecTV to their communications services packages, the company said. The offer provides a triple-play package of voice, data and entertainment services.

In addition to BellSouth, DirecTV has bundling deals in place with Qwest and Verizon. EchoStar's DISH Network has a partnership with SBC Communications.

Trying to figure out the impact of this. I am one of the 90000 and have had D* for several years. I signed up with Bellsouth b/c all I had to do was tell them to add D* to my plan and I would get a $5 credit on my D* bill. Basically, my 'profile' with Bellsouth now shows D* service but my billing, etc for the service still comes from D*.

Sounds like a marketing push - just curious as to how many of these are actual new D* subscribers.
