My 921 locked up while recording a local ota-hd broadcast. Red led was on, but the blue HD led was not. No picture on the the channel being recorded, or any of the other channels for that matter. I used my remote and was able to get the guide to come on and had a picture as well as the guide data. Tried to change channels and wasn't able to get a picture, audio only. Tried changing the channel again to the ota-hd program I was trying to record and got no audio or video.
Performed powercord reboot and was able to get my audio and video back. Checked to see if the 921 actually recorded the ota-hd program, no luck there. The 921 did not record.
If anyone from Dish is infact reading these reports and wants more info, let me know.

Timer details please, and what else the 921 was doing during the attempted recording. Was it in standby mode when the timer fired, and then you turned it on? Were you watching a DVR event?

Timer was set to record local CBS ( KKTV, Co. Spgs) from 8-9pm (weekly recording). The 921 was in standby, turned on with remote. When the TV was turned on (8:45 pm) there was a black screen. Green light and red led were on, no HD led. Attempted to cancel recording, no effect.

If you see it happen again, try pressing the sd/hd button first a couple of times.

Had this happen to me just last night, too. Was recording a basketball game on NBA League Pass. Went to watch it while it was recording (delay), and it just froze on that channel. I ended up bouncing the box (reset), and it worked fine after that. My other recordings fired as normal on OTA, and didn't have any issues after that.
I'm still concerned about a system that keeps the hard drive firing and fan firing 24/7. Whatever memory buffers there are physically have potential to become corrupted, unless this gets a fresh reboot once in awhile.
This needs to be more like the 508's. When you turn them off, they turn off. I feel like all I'm doing when I turn on the 921 is turning on the display, as the receiver is "on" all the time.

Forgot to mention it, but I did that also. No effect.

Mark, I too had a lockup last night while recording a local HD program and a Sat SD program. The system would partially respond but would not go to live view or would not go to the DVR list. More details:
1. The system was recording the HD and SD programs when I got home from an early movie and dinner.
2. I turned my system on and selected the Daily show from the list of recorded programs without any problems.
3. I watched the Daily show until the end of the program (skipping commercials) but after the show ended, I hit stop before the actual recording had ended. The screen froze at this point and I could not do anything else.
4. I tried hitting the HD/SD button which did get me to a standby while loading message, but response was EXTREMELY slow and I could not get to any DVR programs or view live recording.
5. This occured at about 7 minutes before the hour. I waited until about three minutes after the hour and then pressed the power button on the 921. I lost BOTH the local HD and sat SD programs.
Just a note to point out that during all this, the timer icon went off indicating that my recording of the Nascar pole position (sat SD) was going to fire. After the reboot, the sat program did actually record.
This scenario has happened to me once or twice before, i.e., the system seems to lock up but actually will _partially_ respond albeit EXTREMELY slowly and it will NOT get back to the DVR list to view a recording in process or completed recording.
I hope this all was helpfull and made sense Mark. Let me know if you need clarification on anything.
Richard
