Hey,

I was at a overstock warehouse today and they had a DP501 and I decided to venture out and buy it. However, I haven't even called Dish yet to activate the reciever because I am getting a really weird problem. I have a Twin LNB for my Dish500 and a Legacy Single LNB (it may be Dual, shouldn't make a difference), connected via a SW-21. I plug it into the DP501 (which has firmware at rev P222), do a Check Switch and all is OK. But when I go and look at the signal levels and while it detects the 61.5/110/119 signal, it is very jumpy and it causes the reciever will eventually say 'WRONG SAT' in red.

It continues to do this and it causes the freeview stations (101, 655) to come in VERY CHOPPY.

What is wrong with the 501? I have the ability to return the reciever if I need to, however I would rather have a DP501 than my old and lackluster 2700.

Thanx

Just to note, the 2700 doesn't have any issues with the signal...

Hey,

Well I got it working. What had happened is that this had occured around 6 pm ET, I left for the evening and had plugged back the 2700 reciever... After coming home 6 hours later (midnight), I gave it one more shot and everything was working without a hitch. Not sure why, just being weird I guess. I left it on the screen for 5 minutes without an issue, so I hope I am good to go. I will call Dish in the morning to activate...

I hope you enjoy your 501 :) Congrats on the upgrade. I love my 510!

Sometimes DISH receivers can get confused. A good way to clear the confusion is to unhook the RF, do a check switch, hook it back up, and do a second check switch. This clears the matrix of a known problem where signal levels look good even when there is nothing connected.

Hmm,

Its weird, it started back up today. It works in intervals and then goes search signal for a second or two. Is this reciever a lemon?

BTW: I dont have the RF.

TomCat meant the satellite feed cable(s). However, he left a step out.

To totally make sure it's all clean: Unhook feeds Check switch Pull power Check switch AGAIN THEN connect feeds Run final check switch.

Nope,

Did it 2 times, however still having the same issue.

I did some research on it and some are saying that there is a problem with one of the chips on the board and to fix it, you need to put a heat gun on the chip for 30 seconds. However, this voids the Warrenty, so I think I will first go and see if I can return the unit and get a full refund before I take that route...

There was some 501's having tuner issues that would end up resulting in failure after it progressively gets worse and worse.

Report the problem to Dish and see about a replacement.
