View Full Version : 721 instant replay button
I have noticed a problem on both of my 721 receivers on the 10 second rewind button. Lately mine will not go back more than 10 seconds. Usually I can push it 2 or 3 times to back track, but lately I hit it and hit it again and it goes to the same spot in the show.
It has been doing it on both of my 721s.

Is it fair to assume that you aren't changing channels when this happens? I'm sure that you already know that if you change channels, it doesn't buffer until you change back. Other than that, I don't know why it would be happening unless your HD is very full and there isn't enough room to buffer. How much space to you have available on your HD?

That's one of several problems I had with my first 721. I eventually got a replacement 721 because of a bad hard drive.

I started another thread about this exact same problem before I noticed this one. My 721 started doing this last night, for the first time ever, but the problem was gone this morning.
My 721 has this odd habit of rebooting every morning at 4 a. m., so maybe that's what fixed it for me ...

I should have pointed out that, in my case, the "skip backward" (or "instant replay") button would work for at least 4 but no more than 8 consecutive presses.

(artificially inflating my posting count; sorry) ...
It is neither a changing-channels problem nor a buffering problem, unfortunately. I can fast-reverse past the point at which the skip-backward button will not proceed, and then play normally from there. The skip-backward button simply will not skip backward more than somewhere between 4 and 8 times.
This makes, I think, the 4th never-before-seen bug since L173 for me.

No I wasn't changing channels. It was going back on my recorded shows. The hard drive isn't full either. It only does it part of the time. Must be some glich in the software.

I'm pretty sure that if you switch between recorded shows and the channel that you can't back the live show up past where you started watching it unless you hit the buffering button. Anyone else know this for sure?
This has happened to me also recently. Also, I had a timer that didn't fire last night. I hope they fix these bugs.

Me too. One of my receivers Sunday night only recorded the first 60 seconds of a show and quit for some reason. Lucklily I have 2 721s and we sometimes record the same shows on the other one--which is lucky when the other messes up like this. I am still having the instant replay problem and my caller ID no longer shows up on the screen.

My skip backward button will only go back about 3 times now. it was working fine the other day, so im assuming there was a software upgrade within the past couple of days, man this 721 just downright sucks. I've had it about a year.I decided to get it since it has 2 tuners with no extra fee which with my replay only had 1 tuner. But right off the bat i've had ton's of problems not to mention the front panel input's video quality is so bad i cant use it and also the external tuner (broadcast on air antenna) never worked (tv/video button), so i cant view local news, not that thats a big deal cause i just watch the L.A. locals that Dish has.
I miss my replaytv. it always worked perfect and it would keep an eye out for programs indefinetly using thier name, not a stupid time slot. and it never missed a recording except for when i typed in the wrong thing. This 721 has no brain, it cant figure anything out on it's own, and always messes up on programmed recordings, someone should form a class action suit against dish, for all the lost time and money these stupid machines have caused.

My 721 just started this last night. I hit it faster about 4 times, and it did then work correctly. The skip ahead button isn't going the usual 30 seconds either--more like 15-20. I did a soft boot with no change.
I just saw these same two hitches regarding the 921.

I just ordered my Dish this week. I will get 1 dvr and 2 regular recievers.
What model will I be getting and why do they use a telephone line?

jtechie: It won't be a 721, which is the topic of this thread.
