I noticed that Tivo has a list of the most recorded shows (http://www.tivo.com/5.3.top100.asp). I was wondering if Dish Network tracks the same kind of info for their D/PVRs, and if so has it available for viewing?

Negative.

Negative to the tracking, or negative to the viewing of the tracked information?

Negative to both.

Bummer. Thanks for the info.
DISH DVR is just a VCR with a hard drive instead of video tape. I have had some VCRs that worked better.

That's NOT a fair comment - show me a VCR that buffers on it's own or does PIP. It is MUCH faster to move through a show on the PVR instead of a VCR. I could go on and on. A VCR and the PVR are VERY different.

Bob H - if you really feel that way - STOP using the 721 for recording shows and just tape to a VCR. It's not hard to do and like you said you only have to remember to have a tape in the machine.

I don't think it's a "bummer" at all. I don't need or necessarily want anyone else tracking what I watch.
And I don't understand why not tracking my viewing habits makes a 508 and 721 LESS desirable and comparable to a VCR. The ability for some conglomerate to track what you watch is good??

How do you know Dish doesn't track what you watch/record? Obviously if you don't have a phone plugged in they won't, but how can anyone say for sure what info gets sent when the receivers call home.

Actually, I agree with you insofar as I would want to know if my viewing habits were being tracked, and be allowed to "opt out" if so and I didn't want them to be.
The 'bummer' comment was just that I was really curious as to what was being watched by Dish Network viewers (vs. Tivo viewers). Just wanted to compare the two, and was disappointed that I couldn't.

Does anyone know if they state in their legal agreements that subscribers agree to if they DO track viewing habits or not?
