View Full Version : how can TWC do this?
My local cable company has all the locals on digital and they show special events not on the local channels that I get on directv...... I know one time this year, they had the race on the digital channel and the football game on the regular channel.... I had to watch Notre Dame instead of the race on directv....
I know during the NCAA basketball tourney last year, they had all the games on digital cable and I had to pay 60.00 for the games on directv..... I guess this is the future....
I have waited patiently on directv and I heard a ton of channels would be added after the new satellite went up.... Well the satellite has been up awhile and the only channel added is GAC.... I hope something changes soon.... TWC is getting ahead of directv.... They have a sports channel that I would love to have and directv will never add it.... The channel is C-Set....
Any clues when we have new channels coming? I mean regular channels not HD channels....
Sounds like you have convinced yourself that cable is a better solution for your viewing needs,go get it and BE HAPPY.

I'm curious how cable had all of the NCAA Tourney games on your system. Was this the channel using its HD feed and splitting it into four SD feeds?
I can only assume that's what they did..... I do know they had all the games on....
I'm happy with directv but I would like for them to stay up with my cable company.... That's suppose to be the advantage over cable..... More channels and less money.....

It appears TWC simply has a carriage agreement for local digital subchannels. I'll assume you need digital cable, and of course, digital services and rental of digital cable boxes can be more pricey.
Cable companies, in general, have more bandwidth to carry these extra services, including extra digital channels. If you have a digital (ATSC) receiver, you can see the subchannels and the extra games, such as CBS' coverage of NCAA, as well as the conflicts, such as the Notre Dame/NASCAR.
C-SET? Isn't that the Charlotte Bobcats new network?

Yep. It is available on TW DIGITAL cable only, not analog.
hey Direc Tv needs to get Comcast Sportsnet Chicago up and running and soon. Otherwise All sports fans who follow Chicago Sports Teams won't be able to see there favorite team. Does anyone know when or even if Comcast Sportsnet Chicago will ever come to Direc Tv?

There are rumors floating around that it could be tomorrow. If you look at the program guide on the D* website, both CSN Chicago and Altitude Sports have programming starting at 6am EST. Altitude is confirmed to start tomorrow, CSN Chicago could be coming on its tails.

The "new satellite" (assuming the one you mean is the 72.5) was exclusively for local channels in new markets and no plans are in the works to carry any national channels on it. And it wasn't "launched" recently, it was relocated from the 119 slot to the 72.5 slot.
The only "new" satellite launched was the spot beam launched into the 119 slot to replace the relocated satellite. Since it is a spot beam, it's sole purpose in life is to carry local channels.
Then there is the "new" 95-degree FSS satellite, which has been up there for quite a long time and not used until now. That satellite is intended to exclusively international channels like the current Tamil-, Hindi-, and Vietnamese-language programming
No recently-launched satellites were intended to carry more national channels in English.
