View Full Version : My 510 hard drive was wiped

Yesterday, the 510 had about 60+ hours of recording time left on it.
Today, when I go to watch something recorded, nothing was there except for what was recorded earlier in the day, which is an hour long.
It now says I have 70 hours 29 minutes left, and all of my recordings have been deleted except for 1 hour long program.
What the hell happened? And why only 70 hours left on a 100 hour drive if only 1 hour is used? I've had the 510 now for about 4 months, and this is the first problem I've had with it. Do I call in to complain? Can they do anything? If this happens again, they can just send me a box to send it back in. What is the point of recording programs that you'll never get to watch because of their faulty design?

If a re boot doesnt bring it back theres nothing anyone can do. the hard drive is going bad, best to swap boxes before it happens again.
I have had that happen including once when a new softwarte download crashed the box.
its terrible, but it can happen to any DVR:(
Appears more common on E boxes, and worse they have made it near impoossible to replace a hard drive....
been there done that sorry no one can help...
Storing something with a hard drive that can't be readily down loaded or transfered is and probably always will be temporary. I use my 510's to record programs that at the time of broadcast I can't watch. If there is something I want to keep more permenant I transfer it to a dvd recorder or vcr .

This is going to sound dumb, but I was under the impression that we couldn't record off of the dvr's

(Without special software) You can't take a video file directly off the harddrive. However, there is nothing preventing you from taking the A/V outputs and recording using a VCR or a capture card..

Ditto. the PVR is great for timeshifting, but if I want it permanently - capture card to VCD / DVD here I come..

sweet, I've been Dished.
Anyway, I emailed the tech support on 11/4, and finally received a response today, 11/8. Wow, an amazing and speedy 4 day response time. And you know what they said about it?
They said 2 things could have happened... I ran out of room (had 70+ hours left and told them in the email) or someone must have deleted it.
Well duh! If only I had known and not wasted their precious time. And if your asking, no, no one deleted anything. Their product is not up to par, that's what it is. The email response makes me more pissed off than actually loosing all of the recordings, because they obviously didn't read my email. Plus, 4 days to reply? WTF??
oh well... thanks guys
