View Full Version : Can Dish Remotes "Learn?"
I use one of my Dish UHF remotes in the bedroom with a Panasonic tv. I've programmed the Panasonic code into the remote so it will turn the tv on and off. Is the Dish remote capable of "learning" a code from the Panasonic remote? I'd like to "teach" it the sleep timer code.
Sorry, no, the DISH remote can not learn other remotes' codes.

Thanks Bill. I was afraid that was the answer since I could find nothing about it in the manual.

Sorry, no, the DISH remote can not learn other remotes' codes....Yet...It is rumored that E* sees the consumer desire for this....the better question is would they be able to get it to work as advertised...

Their remotes, other than the absence of learning capability, are the one thing Dish does right. They have excellent range. Good ergonomics. And, a large number of built-in codes. All they need to add is learning. (Oh yeah. Not transmitting IR in SAT mode on the newest models is breathtakingly stupid.)

I would agree with you. I am very pleased with their remotes. More importantly, my significant other (who is far less impressed with expensive electronics and technology than am I) is very happy with them. :D

I wish their remotes were programmable with their own Dish code in the AUX mode. Why is this not so?
If it's any consolation the 811 can "teach" ;)

It only teaches because the idiots forgot that UHF only from the remote doesn't work with Universal learning remotes. Teaching was an afterthought.

Mine is potty-trained and can sit-up and roll-over.
