Looks like in order to play the latest game I'm joining (World of Warcraft) I need to do a bit of upgrading. I currently have 256MB and am looking to add hopefully a gig.... pretty sure the max on this machine is 2 gig (Dell Dimension 8100, Pentium 4, 1.7 GHz). Anyone know of any reliable and reasonably priced vendors?

Check www.tigerdirect.com (http://www.tigerdirect.com/) , www.crucial.com (http://www.crucial.com/) those off the top of my head... I have dealt with tiger direct and have not had problems, they ship fast and UPS too I believe.

RDRAM is expensive... I have a machine that isn't currently running that used it... it is honestly cheaper to upgrade your motherboard, processor and memory than it is to max out your rdram board...
but man, those machines were fast!

You can also check pricewatch.com
You might also compare prices and availability at the Memory database of PriceGrabber.com (http://www.pricegrabber.com/home_catpage.php/catzero=5).
I've had good service from both Newegg.com (linked above) and ZipZoomFly (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ThirdCategoryList.jsp?SecondCategoryCode=0111).

Try www.kingston.com Or Crucial.com
(Stay aware from anything you find on pricewatch. or "CHEAP MEMORY" Spend a few extra buck on the good stuff.

thanks for all the suggestions... just to update, my computer is a few years old and was running Windows ME. A friend suggested I upgrade to XP and that alone has made a world of difference. My gaming buddy and I had bought identical computers at the same time... he has since upgraded to a new machine and will probably be pulling out the memory he had in the old one and sending it to me which will double what I have now so that should hold me for a little bit at least. But yes, after looking at pricing and realizing that RDRAM is not the wave of the future I won't be investing any money trying to get more.

I always found windows XP to be sort of a memory hog myself. I use windows 2000 pro at home.
But, I am not a "gamer" and I'm not sure how it would be for games.
But I had a copy of XP home on my pc...and took it off within a month!
