I want to install an antenna in my attic space to get HD locals. The line running from my Satellite runs directly through where I will pu the antenna. Space is limited so it can't be a huge antenna. My question is what is a good antenna that I can put in the attic and how do I install this in the middle of the line? I am about 20 miles from my local towers and I will need a UHF/VHF antenna to get all the channels.

I would get the Radio Shack VU-90 Combo antenna. As far as cutting your line and running your antenna off of the sat cable I wouldn't. I think it would be cheaper as well as better performance for the antenna to run a seperate line. If you can't run a seperate line I think lowes and Circuit City have the combiners you need. You will also need fittings for your cable.

You need a really powerful antenna in any attic to counter the signal "blocking" effect of structures. The Channel Master 4228 would be the only antenna that has any chance of receiving a clear UHF digital signal, even at 20 miles.

If he can make up his mind how far away he is from the broadcast towers it would help. The VU-90 should be under $40 and relatively small to fit in an attic I would give it a try, the worst that could happen is he would return it.

The Winegard GS2000 amplified Sensar would be your best bet in an attic. It's small and will work with VHF/UHF.
You can get it at either;

or

What was referred to above as a combiner for the OTA onto a sat line is called a diplexer. And you want ones that only pass DC on the Sat leg. You will two, one to combine the OTA and one to separate at the receiver. And, there is a small insertion loss using diplexers.
