I have a Sony Plasma that has a non-HDCP DVI port. It is my understanding that the 921's DVI port is not HDCP coded. I have two questions. Does anyone have this setup like this ? And if Dish does decided to encode the DVI port on the 921, is there a converter that will strip away the HDCP protocol ?

I don't think that HDCP kicks in, unless a broadcast flag tells it to. The 921 does definately have a HDCP DVI port. If the broadcast flag states to encrypt the show, the 921 will encrypt and a HDCP DVI would be required on the Plasma to view it.

There of course is no cable to strip out the protocol, that would kinda defeat its purpose. You can however use the component cables, which don't have HDCP. BTW: aside from some tests, HDCP is not currently used.

My understanding was that, at the present point in time, the HDCP is not active on the 921. Maybe it is and I just haven't noticed; this would explain my DVI sync problems when I cold boot the 921 with the TV powered off. In the future, of course, you may find that this becomes enabled and causes a problem for you; I doubt it's as simple to defeat as a converter (makes it kind of a moot protocol!).
