Once you think you have found the correct satellite, how do you verify that you have. Is there a screen that appears after you autoconfigure? I did one today using HBH-SD receivers and it would take about 15 minutes with a nearly complete bar across the screen while saying please wait. Then another screen came up saying acquiring guide data. After that bar finally completed it went back to ch. 100 but I had channel unavailable on ch. 495 and 496. HELP!!!!!!!!!
I use a meter I rotate way east, then hit a hot bird raise your elevation about 6 degrees then come back to west. Your compass should be aiming at 152 degees. Up here my elevation is 36.. Hughes are alot better at auto configureing thab D 10 ones. I have not seen a RCA 431 work yet

I have only installed the Samsung SIR-S300W with 72.5 so far. But you do the initial download. Then autodetect which does take 15-20 min. The receiver will also take another software download which takes 15 min. This is done before or after autodetect it doesn't seem to matter. On these receivers you can check the signal for 72.5 after this is done and you will see ch.495 and 496. What dish and switch are you using? Btw in my area 61.5 is at 151deg. and 72.5 is about 164.

I had a DTV tech come by and install the 2nd dish today but I don't think he really knew how to setup the receivers and point the 2nd dish because it's been about 8 hours since he came by and I still don't have my locals. Plus, he did awful install of the dish by using zip strips to secure the elbow mount of the dish to a fence pole! After he finally made several calls to DTV and tried numerous attempts to setup the receivers, he called it quits and told me that for some odd reason DTV was having problems with it's 72.5 sat and that I should check every hour or so to see if the local channels are coming in. Is there anybody in central Texas (Waco, Temple area) having the same problems I'm having? Is there someone that has locals coming in? If so, tell me your secret so that I can fix the problem myself. Also, DTV was telling me to turn to channel 495 to see if I was getting a signal. The channel was unavailable. What will tell me when the 2nd dish is pointed correctly. Does the receiver need a download? The installer told me that it was compatable. Then again, he might not have known that he was talking about. Sorry for the long story but I want my locals!
The only receivers I know that work are Rca 435, D-10 and some Hughes. If you have a 430 I have not seen one work yet. To the guy in Texas I bet your guy missed the bird.

I would call DTV and get the installer back and position your dish in an appropriate area a fence post is not the proper way. Where is the ground ?
It is sad for the industry in general...Obviously he did not know what he was doing... :(

Thanks for the advice. I called DTV around 1130 PM and told them I needed someone else to come out and redo the install job the other guy tried to do. A different installer came by this morning and took one look at the setup and shook his head in disgrace. He squared away the job the other guy couldn't do to include tying all the loose cable down making the install look like a professional job. For what the other guy tried to do in 3 1/2 hours took about 45 minutes for the 2nd guy to complete, to include picture!!! Now I'm happy once again. I'm not mad at DTV for what happened. As long as they have locals and NFL Sunday ticket, we are ok. It wasn't their fault that the 1st installer was an idiot. They just better track that installer down and fire him before he does anymore bad installs for other people.
