I just connected my new dvd player (that came with a HDMI cable) to my hdtv and I don't see that much difference from composite. There is no problem with the picture such as spotting but it's not as sharp as I thought it would be. would a high end HDMI cable make the difference?
Thanks for any help.

Typically there is not much of a noticeable difference in between going from component to DVI or HDMI. A higher end cable is not likely to make a difference.
Unlike with analog signals, digital signals either work or they don't. As long as the signal is of usable quality, it will work the same with a $1 cable as it would with a $10,000 cable.
Component cables are analog, so they can suffer from interference that could distortion of some type in the picture. They also can have poor connections effecting the analog signal. Quality cables are recommended, but you are unlikely to see a difference between a reasonably priced cable and an obscenely priced cable.
Depending on your equipment, it may be beneficial to keep the signal all digital. All-digital devices, such as LCD based sets, that use component cables have an extra digital-analog-digital conversion. Some people have said that this could soften the picture...whether this is good or bad is up to the viewer and what is being watched.
I would assume you have an HD up-converting player hooked up to an HDTV? If so what HDTV do you have and what player do you have? It could just be as simple as telling the player to up-convert to 1080i, as they come set to 480i or p when you get them.
