View Full Version : Ask DBSTalk: Skip Buttons acting strangely

Since yesterday, I'm suddenly having problems with some of the PVR functions on my 921 with pre-recorded shows - all channels. FF and REW work okay, but Skip Forward seems to be skipping less than 30 seconds forward - looks more like 15 or so. And Skip Backward is even worse. It seems to only go back a couple of seconds instead of 7, and will only go back a minute or so total and no further (like it thinks the start of the recording was after when it really was). I've done several power cord reboots and it hasn't helped. Any ideas? I haven't seen this exact problem mentioned in the searches I've done, but I haven't read everything.
At the same time, I'm also getting more 0 sec recordings than usual, most notably when I try to OTA record from Denver local KUSA. In fact, I lost all PVR functionality for that channel last night (haven't checked today yet) and lots of other strange things happened with it too. I haven't tried remapping it, so I guess that's next. Is this still a result of changing the PSIP table data?
Do I need to report any of this to Dish?
Thanks!

I can say absolutely without a doubt that the OTA will be fixed in L189 which is due next Thursday in this case, because I'm having no problems at all with any of the Denver stations under the betas.
The skip forward/Skip back may be just the same thing that we've seen for awhile - depending on program resolution (1080i vs 720p vs 480i) the skips are different. Or, it could be something else. If you haven't pulled the power plug in awhile, please do so and let me know if there's any affect.

Here was a previous bug report that had some discussion from SimpleSimon on the quirkyness of time shift functionality...

I did try pulling the plug several times last night and it didn't seem to help.
Okay, I've read those other threads and it does look similar to what' s happening to me. However, I'm noticing it on everything, including programs recorded from SD channels (Comedy Central, G4TechTV, local satellite channels) viewed in SD mode. Very strange. And it just started happening last night - I've had the 921 for months now and have never seen anything close to this problem before - skip always worked perfectly.
I'll play around with it some more tonight and see if I can figure anything out and make it go away. I'm not absolutely sure I tried it with pre-recorded HD material.
Thanks for the info!

I noticed something similar for the first time today. I was watching a pre-recorded SD program when I wanted to jump back about 30 seconds. I hit the "back" button and it went back only 2 or 3 seconds. If I hit the button again, it just went back to that same point (over and over!) I could hit "rewind" and I had over 30 minutes recorded and could go back that way--just not with the "back" button. It was really strange and I have not been able to repeat the situation. So maybe there is something "weird" going on right now.

It's still happening to me, but at least it's more intermittent now. It's only in SD mode and only on certain channels (non-network satellite channels like Comedy Central, IFC, G4TechTV, etc.).

Ditto here too. It is really strange that a power cord reset seems to fix things for several hours but then the dreaded bugs return. My 921 usually does the automatic reboot when in standby but this really doesn't seem to be very effective. Maybe the automatic reboot is more for the program guide information? I'm banking on Marks comments that these issues are fixed with L189!
