View Full Version : DishPro vs Legacy - any advantage (if it is free)?

Hi all,
I have been given a Dish 500 dish, a pair of receivers (a 322 and a 301), and the remotes (it was a 3 room setup). I got them from a coworker who cancelled their service, and they were never sent the boxes to return the stuff in. He cancelled in April, so it has been 7 months.
I currently have a Dish811, and an OLD 2700 series receiver (that isn't even connected right now for other reasons). My current dish is a dish 500 with legacy LNBFs (not sure exactly what one), but I can see a pair of SW21's attached at the bottom.
So my question is, would there be any benefit to me if I swapped out the current dish for the Dishpro one? Also, what are the chances that I would be able to either use the receivers, or sell them? Would it cause problems if they were activated (either for me or for the person I got them from)?
Thanks,
Spiff72
The receivers and the LNBF are the property of Dish Network. Right now you are in possesion of stolen property. If you try to activate them DISH should claim their property, if you sell them well there could be charges pending. Seeing you know they belong to DISH why don't you just call and see if their might be a reward for returning them. Maybe they would let you keep the LNB.

I think you need to find out if the equipment was received on a DHA promotion, or was otherwise rented equipment. If the equipment is still the property of Dish Network, they would probably send boxes out to retrieve it.
As for the DishPro, there's really no need for it if everything is working fine right now. The advantage for DishPro is it allows longer cable runs, and if hooking multiple receivers up it can save you having to run so many cables from the roof, since the feeds are stacked. The down side is that you will need to purchase a somewhat pricy adapter to hook the 2700 into it.

Boba, I take it that the 322 and a 301 are Dish Leases? I have legacy Dish 500 and Dish 300 that I bought and purchased receivers. Wouldn't Dish just activate the 311 and the 301 and everyone would be happy?

Sheesh. I didn't expect to be called a criminal for taking the stuff that he was literally going to THROW AWAY.
I guess I should have just let him toss the stuff and not gotten involved...sorry for asking.

Nah, no one is calling you a criminal. It's just that the equipment belongs to DishNetwork if it's leased. He might wish that he didn't throw it away, he just might have to pay MSRP for it eventually.

Sad but you are right....
And some cable Cpg. should also be aware of this.
