John,

9405 and 9408 are not there at all i believe...?
neither 8460?

"10 "VOD" channels showed up in the "test" channel range. They are all called "VOD" or Video on Demand. They are all currently mirrors of PPV Movie channels in the 500 range."

are those on None of Dish receivers or something and only at other MPEG receivers or FTA?

9945 and 9946 .. and 9986 (newer ETC channels) - are gone from EPG completly?

I am just going by Tony's list - on all above...

9405 is gone, tony just never removed it ;)

9408 is still on the system but is only visible to subs with a local daystar station. (kinda works like the RSNs)

i heard some rumors 9408 is gone from the EPG...

(maybe John can check on that one....) :)

Doh! I put it in the changes, but never removed the listing.

It's been a busy couple of weeks and it doesn't end until the week of Christmas! :D

I'll get to this tonight after work. (I hope).

See ya
Tony

Doh, There is no reason to remove 9408. It is in the system and only shows up in the affected markets.

As to the other comments, they will get Okay when Tony catches up.

Again, just because you do not see it does not mean it is not there. That is all.

Am I correct in that 110w TP19 is empty now that the election is done? Since charlie says they are out of space... any thoughts on what might go here? Maybe a multi-channel application for new years eve? How about thanksgiving day parade coverage?

Or even better, some already planned HD that Charlie had in mind that would cause him to run out of capacity? ESPN2HD maybe? Hey, one can always spread rumors, that's what message boards are for.

When you find a message board.

Here, rumors are usually plainly labelled as such. :)

Yes, Tp 19 at 110w is about 97.7% empty.

Kind of teasing you a little but seriously, I wouldn't be suprised if some unusual activity started soon based on this recent legislation developement. Could be a scramble to make some programming shifts ahead of the competition.

Not really, remember, just because legislatation is passed (which still isn't signed by the potus) doesn't mean Dish is going to get right going at offering new services that they. They said that because of the 2 dish ban that they won't even be able to offer Digital Distant for two years, I really hope that was just a threat and not true, bur we'll see)

Remember that digital distants have nothing to do with the single dish rule. All local nalog channels from any single market have to be on one dish (not satellite location), and all digital locals from any one market have to be on one satellite location, but the digital and analog channels do NOT have to be on the same dish.

Right.

Doesn't this pending legislation basically just remove having to negotiate with the copywrite holders within the constraints of FCC regulations. In other words, the current CBSHD deal is probably a contract between the dbs provider and the national CBS network which may no longer be needed when the new legislation is signed into law.

I heard there was something about digital distants not being allowed until 2007?

Once it is signed into law I do not expect Dish to do anything until AMC-15 gets in place. Then when they move TPs from AMC-2 to AMC-15, they will consolodate transponders. For example since they will be able to put about 16-17 channels on a transponder they could combine TP5 (11 channels) with TP3 (6 channels) to use a single new transponder.

There will probably be some PQ loss since many of the TPs on 105 are lightly loaded, and I expect they will pack them in like they do on the 119/110 spot beams.

119/110 TP sees about 30.7 mbit/sec for up to 13 LIL or 2.36 Mbit/channel, although most run at 12 LIL or 2.55 mbit/channel
105 TP could see about 40.9 mbit/sec for up to 17 LIL for 2.41 Mbit/sec, although I expect them to do 16 or 2.55 mbit/channel

E10 is the fix for the remaining side slot locals. All locals in each market will come on the same dish ... a Dish500 or SuperDish. It will be interesting how they will handle significantly viewed when one market is on 105 and the neighbor is on 121. It is an optional service, but I'm sure they WANT to offer it.

DTV locals DO NOT have to be on the same dish as "analog" locals.
DTV distants DO NOT have to be on any specific dish.
The migration to single dish for each market does not affect distants.

The bill is pretty much the last version of HB4518 as discussed here before. No real changes. Dig up the old threads for a less harried interpretation.

Lurker,

The "mark-up" I read has a ton of deleted language especially when it comes to "significantly viewed". It's very hard to follow for me so I'll have to find the revised omnibus write-up before I can say for sure, but if anything it looks even less restrictive than the original HR4518.

Are you reading a different PDF? The DIVJ one (321 pages) doesn't have a lot of markup in the SHVERA section.
ONE LINE on the 45th page of SHVERA crossed out.
Minor corrections starting on the 74th page changing (i)(II) to (i)(III).
SEC 104 on page 104 of SHVERA replaced with a different definition with only the subheadings references changed. This special interpretation of Significantly Viewed is only for the geremandered counties in specific states.

Go back to page 9 of SHVERA for us normal folk that don't live in the targeted counties. Life is good.

BTW: SHVERA DOES contain a statutory license for carriage of LP stations. I hope you benefit! :D

Lurker, there's a whole lot of stuff crossed out on pages 213-15 I beleive. This is the section dealing with specifics on the Significantly Viewed. The descriptions of each specific is in a pencil box with a bix pencil-X over top. I don't know if this means that this language is out and therefore no Sig Viewed is allowed there or if the broader descriptions in earlier areas take over. Each box has a reference number I haven't been able to trace mostly due to lack of time.

The parts crossed out are replaced by a nearly identical wording on a page with different font (evidently grabbed from a different source). But that section is still for the extra counties, the specific areas that get specific special treatment. The Significantly Viewed rules for the rest of us begin on the 9th page of SHVERA (page 130? of the big pdf). It remains the same as the last version of HR4518.
