New Member..

I just purchased a new Dish DVR 921 this week, it works great. I did have a Dish 6000, which was good..

My question is, can I record from my Dish DVR 921 to a DVD recorder and if so what recorder brand under $400 would do a good job..

I called a Dish Tech who said he didnt know ..

Could anybody please throw me a bone..Thanks..

Yes you could but you would have to create a timer instead of a DVR Event (unless you wanted to set a DVR Event just in case something goes wrong with the recording or want to record a DVD by playing back the event) You would also need to setup a timer through the DVD recorder to record at the time you set the timer on the receiver for each recording.

Wouldn't it be nice if it could send an IR command to the DVD recorder to burn a dvd just like it does in the other receivers to send an IR command to the vcr to do so?

I don't think there are any HiDef DVD recorders out yet. The sub $400 units are most likely standard def, probably about 480 lines. They are just like using VCRs, but better resolution. Blue-ray (HiDef) units should be out soon.

I use a LiteOn LVW-5005 (less than $250) to archive down-rezed HD and SD video off my 921's hard disc. Works perfectly. Never a blown disc. I use Ritek G04 4x media for archiving. SD content looks just like it does off the 921 and HD looks better than SD but (of course) not as good as the original HD signal.
