I have a receiver that I've been using since 1997. It's a 5500 I believe. I was considering upgrading to the DVR and wanted some feedback on the 921. Is there an additional monthly fee with the 921? I’ve seen some information saying no and others saying $4.98. I currently have the top 180 + locals. I don’t currently have an HD TV but I’m considering getting one in the next 6 months and I want the receiver to be capable of HD. I’ve seen the 921 for $549.

Any comments and suggestions are appreciated.

The 921 has had major software problems, BUT it is getting much better.

If you do not have the Everything pack, you will pay a $4.95 DVR fee.

You will NOT have a monthly fee since you have the Everything Pack - if you drop that down, you will pay the monthly fee previously stated.

I believe Eldon a company in England has been responsible for the 721 and 921 software, now that both are discontinued products what will be the future.

While it is true that Eldon did the initial development software for the 721 and 921 Eldon does not do the updates for those (or other) receivers.

Bill - I think you may be mistaken. As I remember Mark L's posts, Eldon is still actively involved with the 921. It's possible that they will be phased out when (if?) the box is stablized.

Simon,

From what I heard Eldon is still "assisting" Echostar but all the "actual" programming is being done by Echostar's programming group. You knows how that goes, Eldon could be sending Echostar "blocks" of code that Echostar could be incorporating into the 921 releases.
