I have dish network's two dish, hdtv feed with 4 inputs for 4 receivers with sw 64 installed at the dish. I am currently using 3 receivers: 811, 6000 and I think the standard 301. I unplugged the power inserter and then re-plugged it after some time as I was moving a receiver and television to another room and there has been no signal input in all three receivers since. Called tech help at Dish-network, did the tests but 0 signal shows on Point Dish signal strength screen on all transponders at all angles. What could have probabely gone wrong? I have checked the power inserter transformer's output at 30V and it is okay, cables are fine, then what !!?

A couple things to try:

Look carefully at the power connection to the power inserter. When I had a sw64 my power inserter was real sensitive. It had to be jammed all the way in for it to work. Pull it out even 1 millimeter and it stopped working.

It is hooked up to receiver port #1, correct? Unhook the cables from the other ports and just run from sw64 port 1 - inserter - receivier and see if you get anything. Make sure to do a "check switch".

If that doesn't work, unhook one of the satellite feeds from the switch and use a barrel connecter to run it directly to one of the receiver cables (no power inserter!). Do a check switch and see if that receiver sees 1 satellite. If it does, then you either have a bad inserter or SW64. Unfortunatly I don't know of a way to test the inserter itself, and the switch wont work without it.

I have a terrible memory, but I read a post not long ago that warned that if you unplug receiver 1 (the one that is connected to line 1) without unplugging the power inserter you will blow it out. Perhaps you can search this forum under sw64 or power inserter.

I have a spare power inserter and tried that too but no results. Now the only way to check is by bypassing the switch and checking the signal but the dish is installed way too high on a steep slippery roof. I have summoned dish network's help to check that for me. Thanks Sikma and ajohnson for your valuable remedies. Will post after fixing so it can help others.

Changing power supplies won't help if there is no contact.

Checked the small pin and power input behind the pin inside the inserter by removing the back plate and checking voltages at all points. At the point where the cable goes to switch port 1, the voltage is available at 28V DC, so the inserter is good. I called local dealer and he said sometimes slight surge damages the SW64 switch and most probabely that is the case. He suggested that instead of paying $140.00 for the switch(if it is damaged) and for sevice call, he would rather upgrade me to superdish for $150.00 with one year contract extension with dish and monthly payment by auto credit card pay.

1 year commitment and auto credit card pay is not a problem but do I really need superdish and does this make sense to do the upgrade and get my service back on?

Dish network was charging me $49.50 for the service call and I think I'll have to pay separately for the parts.

My local satellite guy would sell me a superdish for the same money, but I DO NOT have to go to auto pay or a contract extension. He would just sell me the SD outright.

If all you want to do is get back to watching TV call DISH Network and sign up for Digital Home Protection Plan(DHPP). DHPP is $5.99/Mo. and a service call under it is $29.99 equipment repairs/replacements are FREE. After system is back up and running cancel the DHPP.

But will they let me cancel DHPP without any problems afterwards...?

I listened to you, Boba. I called Dish Network and set up appointment based on DHPP, also getting credit for 9 days out of service, so the call is apparently free! Thanks.

Finally got the service back. It was sw 64 and also the receiver 811. Surprisingly, the receiver 811 was not on port 1 (power inserter line).

The sw64's back plate was not glued very well resulting in moisture build up inside and eventual failing. The new sw64 has silicon sealent and hopefully shd work better.
