:newbie: I have a 921 on the way and would like to be prepared but no where can I find out what cables, if any, come in the box. If i need some I would rather order over the internet than pay local "Best Buy" prices. Can anyone help?? Thanks

Well, mine came with a set of component video cables, an s-video, rca audio, composite video, and a phone cord, (that i can remember). No DVi cable was included.

The 921 ships with the following accessories:
- platinum UHF-Pro remote control
- a hefty Y, Pr, Pb component video cable
- an s-video cable
- a small UHF remote antenna
- phone cable
- a small length of coax cable (3 feet?)
- a combination audio and composite video cable
- AAA batteries for the remote
- channel guide
- a thick user's guide

!rolling I KNOW you meant a guide that is thick, but when I first read it, all I could think of was a guide for simpletons.

You're thinking of the "dense user's guide". :D

His phrase was OK. To get your guys meanings you need to write dense-user's or thick-user's guide. :)

I use a DVI cable with mine and it works great. They are still kind of pricy at Best Buy/Circuit City but you might be able to find one cheaper elsewhere.....

You're correct, but I wasn't saying that his syntax was wrong, just that when I read it I had to chuckle. :D

Larry:

The component video cable that came with my 921 turned the entire picture a purplish color. I took the cable over to a neighbor's house and got the same result on his tv. (He had the same problem with the cable that came with his receiver as well.) I then tried hooking up the 921 with a Monster component cable and the HD picture looked great. The recommendation on this site was that DVI would be the best connection though, so I purchased a $99 Monster DVI cable and a $20 no-name brand for comparison. Through a series of A/B tests, I couldn't tell the difference between the Monster DVI and the cheapo model on my DLP TV, although both seemed ever so slightly better than the component cable. So, my recommendation would be to go with an inexpensive DVI cable.

Good luck.

Cheap DVI cables can be found at www.monoprice.com. I am planning on getting a 15' cable plus a 10' extender to try getting 25'. Monster cables are way overpriced - just like Terk antennae.

BTW - the 34" Dish HD TV came with a 6' DVI cable - works great so I did not even try the component cable from the 921.

The cable information has now been added to the EKB's 921 page (http://ekb.dbstalk.com/309).

'sounds like you got the Pr & Pb cables reversed.
