HI. Brand new to the HD experience. Just got my Sony XS955 yesterday. I plan on calling dirctv today to purchase the HD Receiver, satellite, and antenna. What receiver comes w/ this package for $349? Would I be able to upgrade to anything better? If so, what would you recommend? Thanks

I received a Hughes, which I love. But a friend of mine just got the Samsung.

I don't know if the D* reps even know what they will be sending when you call them.

Just a suggestion - Look into your options and call Directv telling them that you are possibly switching but wanted to see what Directv had to offer. Get them to forward you to customer retention. I got the above package for $150 with installation - you get whichever receiver the installer has. In my case it was the RCA which is working just fine and has a very fast menu (at least compared to my Ultimate TV I am used to).

Also, check how far away from the towers you are at

They supply you with a clip on antenna and I heard these don't work extremely well. I picked up a Channel Master 4228 and put it in my attic and pick up all my channels. I am 30 miles from my towers and they are all in one direction.

Not that it probably matters, and my memory is pretty bad.

I got mine about 6 months ago, and I am pretty sure that D* mailed or UPSed it right to my house. An installer hooked it up the next day.
