Here is some background first.

co-op (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=36365)

So anyway I have Direct overriding (so to speak) my local co-op. I'm getting the second dish so I can now get my locals. I'm also getting the $49 Tivo. (I've got to try one). The two recievers I've had since 2000 are still working but they say will not work so they want to swap me out to new receivers. The recievers I have are RCA DRD440RE. I love these recievers for the remote, interface & caller id w/ history. (It blows the Tivo doesn't have caller id!)
But if I get new recievers I guess they are whatever the installer has on hand. I hate to go "backwards" & get very basic recievers after having these. Direct was cool & told me I could purchase what I wanted at a Best Buy or something later & get a credit. But is there a way I can good a good reciever from the start? OR what is the latest & greatest non Tivo/ or HD reciever I can trade up to? Any place I can look to see screenshots?

I'm kinda happy I don't have to switch to Dish now (though the NBR on the 522 looks cool & the 322 reciever looks nice), But I do want the good stuff from Direct too.

All the swaps we have seen in the past 6 months gives the customer a Phillips Dsx-5500c or DTV D10 series... All of which have Calller ID. The D10-100 seems to be the best standard reciever I have seen. IMO
Cure for a CallerID-less Tivo.

You will probably only be able to get the brand new DirecTV D10 receiver for your second receiver. DirecTV has phased out the old Samsung, RCA, and Hughes receivers at the base model level. It might be possible to find a Hughes, which is the brand that I have and like. The base receiver will have caller id and keep a history, I do believe. As to the interface and remote, someone with a D10 will need to let us know how good it is.

The TiVo receivers all behave identically, so there's no significant difference between them. I have a TiVo. Trust me, you'll love it and never want to go back.

Congratulations!

there are 3 D10 recievers I have seen so far...
D10-100 (rca)
D10-200 (samsung)
D10-300 (phillips)
All have the same small footprint, slightly different faceplates, and all have different UI. the 200 and 300 are the same as their mian brand counterparts, while the 100 is a redesigned UI.
