CNN International is/was one of the best sources of global news and information and was removed on the 15th of this month from the Directv and Dish Network programming lineup. Does anyone know of a way to switch providers or something to be able to get that channel again? CNN/fn has been discontinued by Time Warner, I understand, but can't find out what they're planning to do with the International News part of the channel. It would be great if they expanded it to be a whole channel on it's own, the more informed we are about the world, the better we can see how we fit into it.
Most cable systems still have CNN international. No one has CNN/FN. They where on most cable systems as two different channels, not one like satellite did. Both channels had 24/7 programming even if you were not seeing it on satellite. I can't understand why DirecTV just didn't switch to all CNNI programming on that channel?

It seemed like everytime I wanted CNN Intl., was at a time it wasn't on<G>. Being a news junkie, I miss it. Do get BBC World via BEV (the Canadian DBS). Because of traveling etc. didn't even notice this change.

I called CNN and they still offer CNN International.
For some reason Rupert Murdoch's Direct TV has chosen to drop CNN international which is the best international channel they offered. NWI is nice but not as interesting.

I can see him removing anything that would compete w. his own Fox News - but DISH doesn't carry it either. And, what's BEV's excuse? I'm sure they have approval from the CRTC.

What is BEV? What comes up on a google search is 'Blacksburg Electronic Village'. If it's something available here, we'd consider switching from Directv. I'm really looking for whatever provider carries the best international news.

Bell ExpressVu - A Canadian DBS provider. The other is SC = Star Choice.
That said, those of us in the far west lost BBC World yesterday. This is because they moved that channel to a weaker sat. that doesn't reach the west or southwest. Don't know about Texas. To get that service you have to give them a Canadian address, altho you can set up the acct. to be billed automatically via U.S. credit card.
I got it mainly for HDTV as well as a foreign perspective on the news. They have E&W HDTV U.S. networks and a bunch of other HD things.
Up til the time they started shifting some channels to the old, weak sat. - all i needed was an 18" dish. I did need to get a 24" to pick up their new HD sat because we are near the edge of that foot print. The HD sat. is futher east.
Originally everything was on one bird at 91. Then, when they added mor HD last year - they shifted all HD to the sat. at 82. Then a few months ago, shifted some channels to an old sat. also at 91.
