View Full Version : Any better picture Quality 921 vs 508?
I have a Panasonic Taux CT-36HX40 4:3 set that is 1080i compatable. I am thinking about getting the 921 DVR for all the extra features. But wanted to know if the picture quality on the SD channels is any better on the 921 vs 508?
The TV has inputs for S Video and component. I am currently using S-Video for the 508.
Appreciate any feedback.
On HD the picture is very good on SD it will be the same or worse due to line doubler.
PQ can be a function of both source and PVR. The good news is that the PQ degradation from DISH recorders (since the 501) is negligible. The bad news is that the source PQ degradation is severe, although usually still better than OTA or cable.
What that means is that there is very little room for improvement on any new models that might come out, and that no PVR can improve on the mediocre SD quality of DISH, so it is supremely unlikely you would see improvement from 508 to 921.
So the SD picture quality would not be any better by using the component outputs on the 921 versus the S-video on the 508?

It MAY be better. You also may want to try 480P which looks on my two HDTV's to be better then 480i of 1080i.
I just switched from 508 to 921 and my sd picture quality is a tad better on my DLP sammy probably just because of the dvi connection.
