I just sent the installer away who was about to install HD. I live in south San Jose, CA - 95111 and apparently only get NBC on the OTA antenna (Winegard GS-2VRD). This antenna appears to work up to 55mi, and other networks are in San Fran or Oakland. Went to www.antennaweb.org and only shows NBC and some other independents for 95111. 4 miles up the road and it shows all the networks (19 chans in all).
Any idea if better antenna or other ideas on how to get HD?
Would I need to subscribe to other D* services to get out of state network coverage?
Any idea if this will be improved any time soon?
Was really looking forward to getting the HD on my 55" mitsi, but now appear have to wait. Bummed...
Thanks,
T
I can't believe San Jose is neglected so badly. Seems like they need to become their own DMA. I understand KNTV is moving its transmitter north as well. Don't know if it is a translator for SF or permanent facility. Can you get any of the digital signals south of you (KCBA, KION, KSBW)

Why not get the Local's pkg. D* offers? When I ran your zip in D* local
chan. pkg, it shows a pretty good availabilty, including all major nets,
which should give all major's in H/D no?

Hi Moonman,
My understanding is that those are just SD channels (I currently get this), the HD broadcasts come across on another channel.
Thx

Well If you are crazy for H/D coverage, the H/D pkg for 10.99 would give
you the major nets in H/D no? (it does for mine!)

I live in south san jose and have a CM4228 pointed north and I pick up all the statation from Sutro Tower AND pick up KNTV11 of the back side no problem. So unless you antena was in your attic I am not sure what you issue is. One of my co-workers lives out in Almaden Valley and has the same antena as I and picks up everything as well....
