For the past year, I was a Directv and Dish customer. Decide to use one company and Directv easily won. I was with Dish 4 1/2 years. I had two receiver which I paid a lease agreement $10 per month. You would think that I had paid for the 4900 and 1000 model many times. I asked them for some equipment, a couple of 510's, they said I could only have one receiver for $49 and the other one would be for full cost.
I will miss my Superstations and that is about it. Directv gave me 2 free Tivos and I had to pay for the shipping $14.95. You would think Dish would care about their customers who spent over $100 per month. So Bye Bye Dish.

And as for superstations, make sure to check your locals package with DirecTV as there are some markets where DirecTV carries a UPN or WB affiliate and Dish doesn't (like my market, D* has our low power UPN whereas E* told us to pound sand because it wasn't full power).

Also D* has recently rolled out "regional" WB stations to markets without a WB so check into that as well.

And welcome to DirecTV.

I hope they soon roll out a UPN regional station to markets with out UPN.

In OMaha, Cox cable owns UPN and wont put it over the Air. Direct TV should do the same with UPN like they did with WB.

And welcome to Direct TV

Yea, hopefully they will be able to come to an agreement with UPN on that for those without one.

If you really miss the Superstations you can get them from Dish alacarte for $10.95/month. I was never with Dish until I got frustrated enough with DirecTV's refusal to offer WB and/or UPN, I bought a low end Dish 301 receiver and a 22kHz signal generator for use with my Phase III dish.

I can not receive the national WB feed. My local ABC/WB is owned by clear channel. My WB programming is actually shown on the UPN station (owned By CC) on a delay of 4 hours. Because of Clear Channel, I can not receive the WB feed from Florida. Also I prefer to wash my hands totally from Charlie and Dish. So no superstations!

I don't understand why Directv has never offered the superstations--especially when the satelite laws says they can and plus they carry all the superstations in their local packages now anyway.

From a marketing standpoint, I would think Directv would add the superstations because its one thing that keeps people with Dish and from switching to Directv. If Directv began offering superstations, I'd bet a lot of people would switch in a minute.

One more reason I left Dish. I had the E/W networks and superations bundled together for $11.99. This month's bill broke them down for $5.99 for each. A $6 increase also with the price increase in Feb. Too much. Also I am finally tired of Charlie dragging his feet in adding channels. HD leader? Dish really dropped the ball. Also the Comcast Chicago Sports channel addition joke. If a customer in Chicago stayed with Dish, I would not understand it.

Well it sounds like you are all set and you don't need to waste money on superstations then. You get all the programming from both UPN and WB. With a DirecTivo you don't care if it's on at 2am, 3am or whatnot. Set a season pass and forget it. :D

Welcome to total DirecTV asmith. I also had the superstations with Dish and thought I'd miss them when I left, I did a little at first, but now it doesn't bother me. I guess it depends on what you like and your schedule, but as Scott says, set a Season Pass and watch it on your time not theirs :)

I had a similar fear that I'd miss HBO Comedy but while I'd still like to see D* add it I prefer the stability of the D* hardware.

Directv gives me the following:

All four major nets in HD
Unparalleled (sp?) recording ability (and believe me, I have use the competitions DVR's..)
NFL ST
Lots of Hi Def channels
local channels
reasonable pricing

The addition of all four networks in HD and the Tivo are the factors that will keep me subbing.

It's not as much that DirecTV doesn't want to offer UPN, its just companies have to come to some agreement to do it.. and that hasn't happened.

Not ranting again but what DirecTV does offer me.

Horrible channel layout. Too many blank channels and about 50 PPV's in the front.
Crappy Tivo that keeps going b&w. Pathetic 30 minute buffer. Slow guide.
Less premium channels 8 of them to be exact.
Crappy music channels and only 35 of them.
No superstations from Boston, Dever and L.A.

March, back to Dish.
Now don't flame me.

Why did you switch in the first place? Except for your comment about the Tivo going to B&W (neither of mine do) all of your complaints should have been no surprise to anyone that did their research.

I have told him this before Reddice will never be happy with anything. Nothing ever lives up to his expectations and expect complaints after he switches over again.

1) If the channel lineup is that big of an issue, you've got problems
2) All three things are a very small compromise for the functionality of TiVo. Guide and 30 minute buffer I could careless about.
3) More premiums that repeat the same programs in fullscreen
4) I'll take unedited Music Choice over cut up Muzak any day, already subscribe to Sirius
5) Superstations are nice but most people can live without and there are many happy DirecTV subscribers who are still breathing even tough DirecTV doesn’t carry them.
