Do you not even see the channel guide or the barker channels? Are you sure the receiver can see the 61.5 (E3 Sky Angel) slot?
Are you sure the receiver could see an Echostar satellite when your subscription was first authorized? Did you give them the correct smart card and receiver IDs? Otherwise you won't get your decryption keys.
I'm reasonably certain that Sky Angel is still using DISH to perform its subscription authorizations, since "Dominion programming" for $0/month (I'm a "life-long" subscriber) continues to appear on my DISH bill. This will probably continue at least until SA is ready to go its separate way on DVS1, if not for the life of E3. Their business partnership has always been a bit cumbersome, and relations have been further strained over the past year, as you are probably well aware.
So, when you call or FAX Sky Angel for a receiver authorization, it could possibly take quite a while until DISH gets the request and sends the message. What I did for my parents, since I was only visiting and wanted to make sure the service was working before I left, was to call DISH with the IDs and ask them to send the authorization message, since my parents were already stored in their database as legitimate Sky Angel subscribers. DISH made it happen just like it should; Sky Angel appeared on the guide while I was still on the phone with them.
The 501 was subbed to E* for a couple years (my account) and has been on SA previously..when I go to the setup screens it defaults at Satellite location 119 transponder 11..then when I set up the cooridanates and do a check switch..The screen shows no switch box which there shouldnt be one..since I am only wanting to see one satellite anyway..I just want to make sure I get at least a couple Dish Barker Channels before I actually subscribe which should be the end of next week.

Try pointing the dish at 119, confirm good signal and barkers, then leave the 501 turned off, say, overnight. It should eventually wake up and download the latest software. Once that's done, slew the dish back over to 61.5, confirm good signal and barker(s), then await authorization, as mentioned in my previous post.
Off-topic for this forum: Are you happy with Sky Angel, or what changes would you like to see? You might be still be able to get onto their new "Viewer Advisory Board". They would e-mail a new survey to you about once a month.

zip code azimuth have no bearing on seeing a signal. It needs to be pointed at 61.5 and that is all the purpose of the zip is to give you on screen numbers for pointing. If this receiver was used where a switch was involved and now there is no switch the first thing you need to do is run a check switch. Also not all transponders on 61.5 are active so make sure you are using a live one in the on screen info.
