I was under the impression that because my Fox local was O&O that it was not necessary to obtain a waiver from them to receive Fox HD from Directv.

This is not the case, as I am waiting for them to approve a waiver for me.

You don't need a waiver, call the HD eligibilty department at 1 800 263 0028 and ask them to get FOX HD turned on for you.

Thanks for your interest, but I called this number and I was told by Ashly that I had to have the Fox Distant Network to receive Fox HD. I have to wait ~45 days for a waiver from the O&O station in question.

There goes the Super Bowl in HD.

The FCC wants a one dish solution for satelitte locals but its ok for me to have two outside antennas, one for analog uhf & vhf, one for a 5kw LP digital station 35 miles from me, and a satelitte dish to boot.

The FCC talks big about the digital transistion, but much of what they do seems designed to slow it's development.

Call back, nostar that info is not correct UNLESS there is another Fox affiliate that is claiming you have Grade B access as well. ONLY in that case would you need a waiver from the other FOX station not the O&O. Check again to see if another Fox is claiming Grade B status. If not make another call. I have it here in Cleveland with no other Fox stations around.

I tried again and the rep was pretty nasty, saying again that I must wait for the waiver process. ~45 days.

I'm ready to give up.

I am in a similar situation. I live 50 miles west of Chicago, Il. A Fox station 40 miles north of me in Rockford, Il. claims I should be able to get them(Grade B). Unfortunately for me, the covenents for my subdivision prohibit antennas on rooftops and I'm not interested in going into my attic with a multi-directional antenna. I currently use a "rat-shack" #1880 to pull Chicago's HD stations thru my dining room window(facing east). I too must wait 45 days and hope Fox(Rockford) relents. What a joke!

I live here in Cleveland and Fox is O&O,so when it went HD I got it automaticly! You would need a waiver only if you wanted east and west coast feeds.so somebody is yanking your chain!

I know your right!

I keep calling. The last call I made, the csr told me that I was eligible for the Fox HD channel and there was a problem with the system that communicates with the receiver and smart card. He would definitely look into it for me and would return my call.

I'm not sure what's going on.

Is it your rooftop? If so, then you tell those people to shove it and go put up your dish, because federal law prohibits such organizations from preventing someone from installing antenna, including dishes.

I think you can make them prove it! Order up a field strength test. 40 miles is a pretty good poke for UHF, but not VHF. Which one is it?

yep - based on this thread, I called and said I wanted Fox (Atlanta is O&O). Guy said yep and that they would get it turned on. System was down at the moment but it will be turned on as soon as system was up.
