Hmm...from that story, sounds like that box just adds artificial enhancements to the picture. Not sure that's a good thing.

This new technology is exciting to me as it is likely to trickle down to the mass market beyond just Sony products. Personally, I just hope the PQ improvments offered by the "Creation Box" technology aren't negated by my inexorably failing eyesight!

If you're gonna spend 5 grand on an STB to watch HD on an SD set, why not just spend 4500 on a good HD (not ED) plasma?

If you're gonna spend 5 grand on an STB to watch HD on an SD set...Why on earth would anybody do that? You've missed the entire point. Perhaps you should reread the article. The technology will be put into Sony tv sets and will probably trickle down under license to other products such as sat IRDs. Some here need to be a little more forward thinking and use some imagination for a change.

This will probably just become another component that is part of the televisions among all the other components they contain today or could be considered a premium enhancement. It could be had for just a little more just as you pay extra for a flat screen tv, or one that is currently HD instead of SD that is the same screen size, or getting an LCD or plasma instead of a projection, it would be considered another premium to be added to the list of other premiums currently available to us. This could also give consumers another option, to get a projection tv with this picture enhancement technology for about the same price as what an LCD, plasma, LCOS costs but by the time it becomes more mainstream the price of LCD plasma, LCOS will probably drop.
