Dish Network will again run a free preview of Americas Top 150 which will air on 119 (so folks with Dish 300's will be able to view it) The preview will start on May 15 and end May 22. The preview is expected to be shown in the 264 channel range.

Geeze, I hate when they do that, the EPG gets all cluttered

I wonder how they are going to do this when they have already removed 4 conus transponders to make them Spotbeams.
Can anyone say Heavy Compression?
God I hope not.
When they did this last summer the PQ did suffer.
I suspect only 4 or 5 channels at a time on 119, like a previous preview. Subs with DISH 500 would get them all.
Where was this announced? Is there a schedule of what channels will be on when anywhere?

Lurker it was announced HERE first. :D
Shortly after I posted it Dish Depot sent out an email telling the same thing.
No schedule is out yet but I would expect one soon. After all tommorow is the 15th.
I am thinking of changing my name to Scoop :)
As long as it is not Snow Scoop.

Wow! Tivo has just done a lineup change adding all the channels for the preview from 265 and up.
Well, the free preview is underway and it looks like the channels are still mostly on 110. In fact, I have yet to find one that moved to 119, especially for the preview.

I really hope so. If this becomes reality then Dish can unload most of the Locals to spot beams on 119 via Echo7 and 110 via Echo8 and have lots of Conus bandwidth at 110 to unload some of the overburdened transponders at 119. Some of the transponders at 119 are supporting 10-11 video channels as well as some data services like music channels, Open TV channels and EPG data streams.
The perfect solution would be to require Dish 500 for all subscribers at Top 100 or better. Just move any channels that are not in the Alaska and Hawaii Top 70 to 110.
Viola much better picture quality.

Completely Worthless!!! Every time they preview AT150, I am firmly convinced that it is NOT worth the additional $9/mo over the AT100. The movie channels are junk IMO ( cound not find one movie worth watching yet with this preview) and the few extra stations I can definelty live without.

I agree completely! If it were only $5/mo., I'd consider it. The themed Encores should be in the Super Pak anyway.

I enjoy the movie channel and the encore. The themed encore channels by definition cater to people with a particular taste.

Oh well....those channels that will be on our televison most of the time.
Completely worthless? (in your humble opinion, of course).
We will really enjoy The Biography Channel, Discovery Civilization, The Science Channel, Fox Movie Channel and the Encore, TMC and themed channels.
I guess your tastes and our tastes just differ.
Now...anything that has to do with sports, wrestling or Star Trek...THAT is completely worthless. ;)

Hey no making fun of Wrestling or Star Trek. :D
Ok you can make fun of wrestling, it has started to SUCK alot lately. :)
BTW Welcome Nancy :hi:
I'd upgrade to the 150 pack if the picture quality was decent but there's no way I'm going to pay an extra $9.00 or even $.09 with this pixelation hell they have put upon us. I truly hope E8 gives E* the bandwidth to uncompress some of their signal. My fear is that they will keep the compression as is and just cram more junk (shopping nets..etc..) in the extra bandwidth.
Well, the free preview is history, so to speak,
I guess the only disadvantage of having Dish's Everything package is that I don't get to take advantage of the free previews. Oh darn.

This really depends on your taste in programming.
We probably watch "Fox Sports World" more hours than any other channel, starting with the "Sky Sports News" at 7pm ET every day.
During the winter, we watch "Outdoor Life Network" winter sports about 4 hours a week.
We also watched a bunch of old "Avengers" episodes on Encore Mystery, and Encore Action has TONS of Anime series and movies, and HK action and kung-fu flicks.
But, generally, if you are looking for movies from 2001, they are not on Encore (hence the name, eh?). So, it really helps to do a Guide Search for keywords (if you don't have a 501, you can do that at: Online searchable Dish Network Listings (http://204.95.170.116/dishsite/) .
I had read somewhere that there was going to be a push to have everyone upgrade to a Dish 500.
If the merger goes through, it seems likely that all the core programming will end up at 110, because then a Dish 500 would get core+any locals. (Then the biggest cities would be on E*8 spot beams, and only require Dish 300, with the more populous East Coast locals on 101 where DirecTV has more spots, and the sparser West Coast on 119 and E*7 spots.)
Was it just me or what ?
I'm one of the Dish 300 holdouts and I presume that this preview was aimed at customers like me to entice me to upgrade to the Dish 500.
That being said, my experiece with this free preview was that the "extra" channels turned on during this preview amounted to three or four actual channels(western, outdoor and a couple others). The remaining "new" channels ( which were at least five or more) were nothing more than a Dish feed of a video loop advertising all the great new channels available. I certainly was not impressed !!! And I do believe that I'll remain a lowly Top 100 Dish 300 customer. Dish wants me to have a Dish 500 than call me up and tell me when the free install will take place.
The free install may come when you commit to a year of programming.
