Waiting for DIRECTV Active(TM)

Directv announced DIRECTV Active(TM)
on Jan. 6, 2005

They said it would have
-- Weather - Provides current and five-day local weather
forecasts for thousands of U.S. cities, as well as regional
weather maps updated throughout the day.

-- DIRECTV Mix Channels - Lets customers direct tune to the
DIRECTV Mix Channels.

-- What's Hot - Keeps customers up-to-date on the week's best
movies, series and special programming offered by DIRECTV.

-- Horoscope - Allows customers to check their daily horoscope by
clicking on their individual star sign.

-- Lottery - Offers up-to-the-minute results from the 38 state
lotteries in the United States.

DIRECTV has been deploying interactive-capable receivers since April 2004. In February, these set-top boxes will receive a software download that will enable these interactive capabilities. The model number of this new box is the D10 basic receiver from DIRECTV.

I have 3 D10 recievers (They came with Directv system) Any idea when the Interactive channels with come what part of Feb and on what channels? Also is it true the mox channels with me interactive meaning you can change the channel by selecting it on the mix channel?

Also does the phone line have to be hooked up for the download to take place?

It's easy to say DirecTV's MIX channels are better.

Dish's Matrix Channel is just 6 static channels, thats it.

DirecTV MIX Channels are not just 6 channels on a screen, instead they are LIVE Dynamic Channels, with Live News and Sports tickers on the screen with the 6 channels, plus they have hosts updating you on news and sports in realtime. Also the channels are dynamic, for example to sports channels are not always the same 6 channels on the screen, for example if TNT has NASCAR on then that is one of the channels shown, however once the sports is done then TNT is no longer on the Sports Mix.

Also with the NFL Sunday Ticket MIX takes it to another level where you can check stats of each game in progress, plus you can program it for Fantasy Football mode and your receiver can actually keep track how your fantasy football team is doing automatically for you.

Dish has a 6 channel Matrix, it's nice, but DirecTV's MIX are not just a 6 channel Matrix, but itself is its own channel with personalities all of its own.

Now that's what I'm talking about! When do we get this? Like I needed another reason to get excited about football season starting all up again......why do they torture me so?

I didn't mean those kind of Sports Interactive, I meant like Dish Networks where you can look up scores in any sports or even have your own scoreboard.

Seems like with dish you don't have to but I have no idea about this one. I hope not....unless it will use my cell phone :lol:

The mix channels would be great for such things as regional weather or different weather maps. They could show many different weather maps on the same screen and clicking on that weather map enlarges it. This would also be good for showing warnings that may be in different areas or radar maps.

Also in the immediate forecasts within the next 24-48 hours they should indicate the amount of snow/rain expected.

I been calling Directv customer service asking about Active Weather, they say they never heard of it and will never get it.This is true !!!

Funny because when we got the mix channlels I called to see if they were planning anything like these active channels you all speak of and the guy swore to me they didn't have mix channels. :grin: Got the same thing when ABC-HD started being broadcast. I was told it wasn't..."I had gotten some bad information". :eek2: Not sure the left hand knows what the right hand is doing a lot of the times! :D
