2 years ago I purchased from Walmart a DTV system with 2 receivers, both were installed on different rooms and worked fine all this time, then, almost 2 years to the day the wierdest thing happen, both receiver, at the same time, about 10 days ago, started acting up and when I say weird I mean W E I R D ! ! , I shall explain.
Me and my wife are watching TV, in different rooms with different Hughes receivers, suddenly one of the TVs, the video goes nuts, then freezes, then goes out, sound still OK, then the receiver TURNS OFF BY ITSELF!, wait about a minute, the receiver COMES BACK ON BY ITSELF! and it goes into the Satellite search mode, then the TV program continues and you watch TV once again, until a few minutes later, some times 2 minutes, some times 30 minutes and BOOM! the whole problem happens again.
This started happening with BOTH RECEIVERS but never at the same time!
It can't be the dish, the receivers are shutting off! antenna wouldn't do that. It couldn't be the AC power, the TVs never went out and they are on the same plug as the receivers, it couldn't be a radio signal, the remotes are infrared, the rooms are several rooms appart and why will the receivers loose the satellite signal if the just went off? and why will the video act up and not the sound?
Any way, I called DTV, they sent a tech, he was stunned so he replaced both receivers, problem solved, so obviously something was wrong with the Hughes but BOTH FAILED AT THE SAME TIME AFTER 2 YEARS OF FLAWLESS OPERATION?
WEIRD, TOTALLY WEIRD.
OK, so now I have 2 new receivers working fine, HOWEVER... the tech replaced my Hughes with 2 RCA and now I'm pissed, so much that I told that to the tech and then called DTV and complained to a supervisor. Why am I pissed you may ask? because the RCA receivers are horrible system, they don't have the Turbo Channels, the remotes don't operate my TV receivers, I have to go over several operation to do something simple and stuff like that, horrible.
So, I want to get 2 new Hughes but they have to be able to get the Spanish Channels, 400 and up, I have an old D1 that works but won't get the 400s
I can buy Hughes on ebay so here I come to my question about advice on Hughes receivers:
I have 2 P4 cards, what Hughes Models receivers do I need to be able to get the Para Todos Spanish Channels and the locals? They told me something like multisatellite or something like that, please help!
Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your problem theres another post on here about this problem with the some Hughes receivers its a software thing, Its so bad that Direct is having to replace some receivers with there RCA model.
I have 2 Hughes Gold Edition model hird-e2 made in 2000 in my home after reading about other problems with Hughes I got alittle worried But mine has not acted up at all :) Hughes Gold ROCKS! and its got all the features you like about hughes plus can receive Para Todos

Its a Top of the line receiver, has 2 rca hook ups, S-Video, VCR Control, and the best picture than any directv receiver

Thats funny, sorry if I sound insensitive, I'm not.

I like RCA but Hughes are cool.

E-1's or latter are multi-sat, the thing you need for Para Todos .

That card stuff don't really matter D* changes them like diapers.

I got some Hughes SD-HBH I'll sell you for...a reasonable price. Look like those old E-1's but got caller id an such.

The remotes will need to be programed to the TV, likely why your RCA remotes piss you off. The tech didn't complete the job.

As far as those receivers going bad sounds like you had some kind of catastrophic event not uncommon to Calipornia.

Well, I got the answer only a little too late, check this link:

I tried to get my Hughes back, I called the service company that replaced them with the RCA junk, they told me that first I had to get damn DTV to agree to another service call.
After many calls to DTV and threatting to switch to Dish they agreed to schedule the service call, then Ironwood Communications, the company that did the service refused to return my Hughes, I guess they wanted to keep them for themselves.
Finally today I was able to get on ebay 2 Hughes like the ones I had, with cards and remotes for a total of $25.
After all this is all DTV problem, they started messing up with the signal, hu?
Setting up the RCA remotes to be used with my TVs helped very little, on the stupid RCA I have to flip a switch every time I want to change from TV to DTV and RCA does not have the turbo channels so I have to memorize the numbers of the channels I watch, get my glasses and press 3 buttons to switch. JUNK, plain JUNK, and I should know, I worked for RCA years ago, when they were still RCA and sold good stuff made in the USA, now they sell nothing but c**p and DTV buys it, of course, screw the customer, right?

Why did you buy 2 more Hughes receivers like the ones you had? They are having software problems with those models so bad that Direct is replacing them, If you get them turned on they will be messed up to right  also what do you want for those RCA receivers?
