I've been waiting....and waiting....
Finally the 921 is reasonable, but apparently buggie
Dish would rather increase prices than add HD content
Direct TV has a comparable HD DVR
Qwest has a DirectTV package (I save $10)
ABC HD & FOX HD are on Direct so next year I can
see HD football
Whatcha think I should do?

That's only if your ABC and FOX local channels are owned by the network, otherwise you're out of luck...

If you can't get OTA nd you had to pick one of the two, as of this moment I would pick Direct over Dish, but I think Dish has an ace up it's sleeve!
Not for me either.
For MANY of us HDTV isn't quite "there" yet. The hardware (TVs) STILL cost too much and the vendors STILL don't have enough channels to justify (for many of us) spending THAT much money. The other problem is CONTENT. Except for sports, I have seen very few things (for me) that are worth spending that much money for.
I've had D*HD for about a year. To me it is definitely worth it. You can probably pick up a HDTV for about $50/month (try Mitsubishi) plus the $10 for D*. They don't charge extra for HBOHD or ShowtimeHD if you get their SD channels.
Everytime I go to a movie it costs about $30 for two people when you figure in a popcorn and sodas.
Go with DirecTV. Home of the BEST HD DVR without question on the U.S market. Once Voom is gone, they will also have the most HD channels of any small dish provider. If you get a discount thru someone then that makes the deal even better. Quality receivers, quality programming, most HD channels, and best outlook on the future make DirecTV the best choice.
When I was ready to make the HD leap, I sold my old projection TV to help pay for the new HD monitor. (I was able to get an HD monitor for almost the identical price I paid for a non-HD model of the same size a couple of years before.) It's a decision I don't regret one bit. The quality of content is getting better even though you may not find something very interesting to watch all the time. The networks are doing the majority of their evening programming in HD so there's still a wide selection available.
As far as Directv being the way to go, that's who I'm with and I'm happy. I would like to see a couple more of the available HD networks but I know they're coming soon.
