View Full Version : Grounding the dish in an apartment
Would it be possible to ground the dish into the internal wiring of the apartment?
For example, can I buy a coax cable with an attached grounding wire, then attach a three prong electrical plug to the grounding wire, and plug it into the wall (or a surge supressor? which one?)
Thanks

I would use a surge strip with coax loop-though. Besure it is rated for satellite use and not just CATV. The box will say so.

If you don't have a three prong plug on the receiver. use the three prong plug. Run a wire ftom the three prong blade to a grounding block before the coax enters the receiver or to a screw on the metal of the box. Then, plug it into a surge supressor lika a Panamax Max DBS+.

The NEC says that low voltage and tv communications must be grounded to the service panel ground, metal water piping in the building, or have it's own standalone ground, but that ground must be bonded to the main electric panel ground.
