Developer: Firefox 1.1 to be Delayed

The next major release of the browser had originally been scheduled for a March debut. However, Goodger said the release date had to be pushed back because of "the realities of the work remaining to be done," including a lot of bug fixes and testing to ensure a stable application.

Shades of Micro$oft!Actually, Microsoft would release it riddled with bugs and holes, then wait for a year to issue the SP to fix the problems. :)

As much as I like to get new versions of software and try out new features, I much rather have software ready to be released then software pushed too early that has a lot of problems. This goes for any software from any vendor.

I've learned also to wait at least a year before applying new versions of software. I find myself less frustrated and spending less time fixing my computer and more time using it.

I'm already running a "pre1.1" version of Firefox. I've been a part of the testing the "bloody edge" in the Firefox development. They release nightly updates of the code, which can have new features, bugfixes, and of course, new problems, and crafty people compile this code each day and release a new browser every morning. Right now the version I'm running is of the 01/28/2005 code and it's actually not bad. There are a couple of little buglets but nothing major, at least not that I use. Others who stress their browser with dozens of extensions (one guy claims to use over 60 extensions) and have dozens of open tabs report other more serious bugs, but I don't run into that. I enjoy seeing the performance increases, and expect to run into a little problem occassionally. It's all in the price of progress.
