View Full Version : buying used receiver from ebay, no card.
Is this advisable? How do I get another access card to use the receiver? Is there a way to determine if there is a balance on these units?

You Might Be Able To Get One On eBay. Get the card number Before you buy it. Call Dish And Ask if there is a balance.
John :)
You are better off buying one here from the classifieds. They are cheaper and much more likely to be legitimate and clean.

What Receiver is It?
You are not located outside the United States, why do you insist on buying someone elses headaches? DISH Notwerk will sell you an extended warranty for $5.99/Mo. that does not require a time commitment. Under that warranty they will replace your defective 4900 FREE except possibly shipping charges and they will warranty it for 90 days. After you get a replacement receiver you cancel the DHPP. There is no worry about cards and balances owed, old software everything is above board. The only reason I can see for your continued posting about 4900 replacements is that you are not legally subscribing to DISH.

You are totally WRONG. I have been and still am a dish subscriber. IMO, what you are suggesting is WRONG. To purchase an extended warranty, get the replacement equipment & then cancel. To me that is wrong, that is almost stealing.
I want an additional 4900 to replace a secondary receiver upstairs. Many people have suggested calling dish and asking for a refurbished unit. I have tried that with no luck, now I am seeking alternatives. I do not need false accusations.

I would stay away from any auctions that didnot include both receiver and smartcard, AND check them out prior to bidding on them.

I have a 4900 that is almost new (Dish replaced it just before I upgraded to a PVR)with remote that I no longer use since all I have are PVR's at this point. PM me if you're interested.
Yes, I am very interested. I sent you a pm.

I purchased a brand new 811 on eBay. Everything is still seal in its original manufacture package. I paid a little more then a 3rd of Dish Network cost, and I own the unit. If I don’t want to keep it in the future, I can sale it. I do not have to tie up with Dish Network monthly installments. After I installed it, I called Dish Network to activate it. It comes with limited manufacture warrantee on it. Why pay more through Dish Network for the same unit?

Are you wanting the 4900 in particular because it has the UHF functionality? You could buy a newer receiver that is better than the 4900 and the UHF PRO upgrade kit which operates up to 200 feet away from the receiver. Also the DVR's have UHF functionality in them and can be had cheaper now than what they used to be. You could get a 501 or 508 that has no DVR fee.
The 4900 has dolby digital capabilities, plus it has 2 audio/video outputs. Had a couple of pvr's - too noisy for me.

if you need 2 audio / video on a unit that has only 1 - RCA Jacks "Y" adapter (splitter) works great specifically for that need. Very inexpensive. ... but you would need 3 of them of course (one for yellow, one for white and one for red)
You are correct, the "Y" plugs will work, but the 301 & 311 still do not offer the dolby digital output, which I really enjoy.
