I could, paradox, trust me. FOX has always been THE biggest opponent of HD technology. Murdoch never wanted to be pushed into it. When HD began to become more prevalent, his network instead opted for FOX "Widescreen" TV, which was a bull**** attempt at fooling the public into thinking it was HD quality. Yeah, right. Don't expect Rupert to go with 1080i for some time.

Some people have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 2st century.

Well if anyone could it would be you Lord Vader but the force is very week in the rest of us. Unless one is doing a side by side comparison...I highly doubt that the avg joe can tell. Especially since TV's setop boxes are all doing conversions up and down in order to display it...so much is lost. I am not say that there isnt a def...just that MOST can tell...

Sorry Paradox, but Vader's right. Rupert never wanted HD at all, he only did it b/c he was getting left behind by CBS. The guy cares less about HD and yes, you cant definitely tell the difference between 720 and 1080 (even the common man). However, I strongly suspect that Tagliabue will lean on FOX for the 1080i standard if CBS keeps up the heat. The NFL is the most manicured/highly managed organiztion in sports. It's also the most popular sport in America period. That being said, it's only a matter of time before Rupert gets a wake up call from Paul. Paul likes the term "parity" and he will definitely insist on it within the next 3-4 years with regards to TV formats.

I must admit I can tell the dif betwean 720p and 1080i depending on the material but only when I am looking at material shot in its native resolution (720p or 1080i) AND the display is native to what was shot. i.e ...the supebowl on a fix pixel display...shot in 720p and displayed in 720p vs display that is native 1080i.

Unless you have both to do side by side compassion with (in my case the bed room vs. the living room) most will never see the dif... IMO

If Tagliabu cared about the differenc between 720p and 1080i, he would have already leaned on ABC.

Is the bathroom or the bar between the 2 rooms? What displays do you have in 1080 and 720? :D (i'd make a jealous face but as always am lost with the smilies.)

While i feel you are correct about being able to see a difference b/t 720 and 1080, I am not really sure which is better for action sports. Remember 720 is progressive (all the lines at once) where as 1080 is interlaced (even then odd). I seem to notice a slight flicker on the 1080 shows (usually the nature shows) when they move the camera around that have have yet to see with 720. Having said that, it matters not to me as long as all future sporting events are in HD! :D

Also, GO SAINTS!!!!!

Yes 720 P is better for sports and according the TV design guru Joe Kane better for everything.

What about 1080p. Many of the new displays can support this and it is supposed to give 1080i the advantages that 720p has over it. I think 1080p will become more common in the next few years and will be the new standard.

I believe the trouble really lies with the equipment that fox owns, not the broadcast.ie.. cameras, Fox trailer etc
